Title: I got laid off today.
Post by: Mr Mannn on May 15, 2009, 05:17:14 PM
Good news is I have 5 months salary to find a new job. I saw this coming and socked away a couple thou and I Mailed out my income tax April 15th, My refund should arrive any day now.
Even in this bad economy thats plenty of time to find a job.

My truck was paid off in January, I have 30K Miles on it. I'm doing OK. and I had two good interviews this week.
Could be worse.

How are you all doing?

Sorry to hear you lost your job, but it sounds like you are in pretty good shape for a few months.  I hope you find a new position soon.

Hate to hear that and hope you find something soon. Searching for a new job is a pain. Good luck.

That sure sucks, but it sounds like you are extraordinarily well-prepared to weather the storm.  Hope you get something quickly so you don't have to deplete the cash reserves too much.

Me, I'm pretty well set.  Even if they dumped me, which isn't in the cards at all, I'm eligible to start collecting retirement immediately...of course that's about 30% pay, the bulk of my planned retirement income stream doesn't start kicking in for about 2-1/4 years yet.  But I could go stronghold/survival mode and scrape by on it 'til the real money starts flowing.

+1.

I do have to warn you though, I was as optimistic as you are now, when I was laid off back at the end of January. (Thank's Obama, you ****er.)  Now I'm downright scared, and preparing contingency plans I'd have never considered a year ago.

My last day of work was May 1.  I have had very bad luck even landing interviews.   Not that I am working that hard at it.

I have a paycheck still coming in until December 15.  I have visitation with my kids in July and August, then I think it is time to look for something outside of Oregon.  13% unemployment here, and I don't interview well.  Given what I hear out of Salem, it will only get worse.   Of course, it is getting worse all over.

I am studying PHP and Javascript.  I am working hard on building skills.  I am also doing volunteer stuff too.

As far as finances are concerned, I am better than I was last year, but I am still in a pretty bad pickle from my legal problems two years ago.

Well at least maybe you will have more time to post on here. :cheersmate:  I am sure you will get something soon.  How could someone NOT want to hire you?

Heres the job hunt score so far.
1)Old application a week ago: denied, lost out to greater experience
2) Fridays interview for a great position: Still open, and I could hear for sure today or tomorrow.
3) Face to face on Wednesday for a new job. 10:30
4) Initial phone interview for another job on Thursday. 9:00 AM
5) Face to face 10:30 on Thursday

A good resume is a wonderful thing.

I'm sure these aren't just my sentiments, but God's too.

(disclaimer: I am not God, but you know how that goes.)

I was in that boat about 2 months ago, but like me you're a conservative: self-reliant, prepared, undaunted, almost.

This'll be nuthin'.
