'Old South' frat targeted over Confederate event

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A white fraternity that traces its roots to the Civil War and Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee is again facing complaints over its antebellum-themed events.
This time, University of Alabama alumnae are upset after Kappa Alpha Order members wearing Confederate uniforms and carrying battle flags paraded past a historically black sorority as the women celebrated the group's 35th anniversary.
The fraternity has been forced to halt its "Old South" festivities on some campuses because of claims of racial insensitivity, and Alabama members have apologized for pausing in front of Alpha Kappa Alpha's sorority house during this year's parade.

================================================
I was not a member of any fraternity when I was in college, but frequented their parties. I had many friends in fraternities, including KA Order. I never attended Old South and never found it racist. Also, I was usually the only Asian there and never encountered any racism and bigotry. Only thing I encountered was fun. There were many Asian fraternities, but I never went to their parties. I can never segregate myself by race. It’s not my nature to do that.

The bigger problem is that some folks in the South can't quite comprehend the Southern Pride movement. All they see is "racism" or "Hatred". Perhaps THEY'RE the ones that need to have a more open mind and more acceptance of people's ideas ?? I love the South, it's history and it's people, black, white or pink purple polka dot. A lot of people, due to progressive infiltration of the educational system are sorely uneducated when it comes to the War of Northern Aggression. They think it was all about race and slavery, when it didn't start out that way.
