Title: Oprah KFC Coupon Riot!

Queen of the USA Oprah gave out coupons to the whole world for a free KFC lunch today. And guess what: As we speak, there are Riots and Sit-Ins and Furor at KFC. BREAKING:

Reports are pouring in from the scene of the melee:

I just returned from my lunch break hoping to use the attached coupon
to score some free KFC grilled chicken at the mid town location 47 E.
42nd Street. Well I guess around 200 people also had the same idea
with coupons in hand.

When I finally gave up (after 30 minutes of aguing with other
customers) a small RIOT started going on outside the store with people
screaming at the manager while he wont let them use their free KFC
coupons (issued by OPRAH)

Another tipster warns of possible RACIAL VIOLENCE:

I went over to our nearest KFC a few minutes ago (this was around 42nd and Park)and chaos ensued. Despite the very visible grilled chicken behind the register, the manager told everyone with coupons to leave and that the promotion was over for the day. The people there are currently holding a sit-in and refusing to leave until they get their free chicken...or the cops are called. Racial epithets were being spewed, people who actually wanted to pay for chicken were facing a potential beatdown, and the manager ran from the screaming horde. Oprah, what have ye wrought?

Great Oprah, just great. Look what you've done. We will continue to cover this breaking potential race riot and/ or political uprising, at KFC. We beg you: If you are on the scene, send us photos and reports at once.

I wonder if it's like the Popeye's thread where the woman was yelling at the recording at the drive-thru speaker, "But my children's gotta EAT!!!"

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —  Customers at a New York City KFC hoping to redeem coupons for a free meal were disgruntled when the fast-food restaurant ran out of its new grilled chicken, but Internet rumors of a riot were unfounded, a Kentucky Fried Chicken spokeswoman said Wednesday.

"Some customers were upset because they couldn't get their chicken, but there was no riot," said Laurie Schalow.

Schalow said the Manhattan restaurant on East 42nd Street plans to begin honoring the coupons again Thursday after it resupplies the kitchen.

The coupons were available on Oprah.com for 24 hours beginning Tuesday after Oprah announced the meal promotion on her show. Each downloadable coupon can be redeemed for two pieces of grilled chicken, two individual sides and a biscuit.

KFC, owned by Louisville, Ky.-based Yum Brands Inc., introduced its new Kentucky Grilled Chicken about three weeks ago. The new menu item is being touted as lower in fat, calories and sodium than the traditional deep-fried chicken for which KFC is known the world over. It even has its own secret recipe, kept under lock and key near the original 11 herbs and spices recipe for fried chicken created by KFC founder Colonel Harland Sanders.

But is he still shipping the "healing water" from the polluted well? This head cold I've got is driving me nuts.

I've fallen down twice this morning but I didn't get up healed.

The consequences of giving away something for "free" and pimping it on a national level.  Thank God it was only chicken and not something important.

Especially when it's hot food that can't normally be bought with food stamps.  :-)

I was thinking more along the lines of healthcare.  If people are willing to stomp on each other and riot at Wal-Mart for $50 laptops, what would they do if Oprah announced Uncle Sugar would be picking up the tab for your next doctor visit?

One of the girls at work tried the chicken; she said it was tasteless and not that great.  I've never worked at one, but I've heard KFC fries their chicken in big pressure-cookers.  It forces the chicken to cook faster.  You could probably bake or "grill" the chicken the same way.

I see on TV the CEO of KFC is saying the coupons are no longer good and wont be honored. A rain check will be offered for a later date.

I wonder if the new chicken comes in pre-cooked? KFC has offered baked chicken in the past as well as skin less fried...they all flop after a while. People wan't fried chicken to go with those high calorie side dishes!

The pressure-cookers I have used before...the end result can be good...it's not really faster, but they hold alot. They cook more evenly also & save oil life.  Henny Penny brand chicken used to be fried this same way...good stuff. Alot of family owned resturants in Illinois and Iowa bought rights to sell Henny Penny Chicken...have not had that in years...sounds good right now!

We tried the KFC grilled chicken a couple of weeks ago.  I thought it was pretty good.
