I think I got punked!
Here's the story. A friend of mine that lives in the next state called me and asked if he could use my checking account to file for his income tax. He said the card has to be attached to a bank account and not one of those VISA atm cards that you pick up at a Walgreens. So I agreed to this and told him when his money comes in, I will mail it to him. Okay, fine...that seemed simple enough. Then the next day, I find out that they withdrew $70 from my account to file this income tax. I called him and said I thought they would deduct this when he receives his return... he said he thought so too. He told me to just take out the $70 when his return is deposited. I said okay, fine. So two weeks later, I get a call from him and we chat a while then he tells me he is going shopping. Right now he is unemployed and collecting unemployment. I tell him that it must be nice to go shopping (me knowing that he is unemployed and he is usually broke). Then he tells me that he received his return. "I said what?" He says his daughter had brought the mail to him the other day and was handing him a letter and he asked her if it was a bill (yeah right) and he said it was his return. I said "I thought it was supposed to be direct deposited in my account and I would send the money to you?" He said no, I guess they decided to mail it. Then he said he will send me the $70. I have a feeling I won't see it and believe that he knew all along that he was receiving his check in the mail. He probably didn't have the $70 to file by the deadline and instead of asking me for the $70, he duped me into using my account.

So am I right? Did I get punked?

Like a good little liberal, she should be happy she had the opportunity to give $70 to an unemployed friend in need.  But it was her money taken and not her taking someone else's money, and we all know that's different.

When I check my spam box, sometimes I have emails from someone named Michael Vincent claiming to have found me a new job, I wonder if they are related?  I also think he might be the guy from The Invaders but I haven't seen that show in a long time.

I hope you told them something along the lines of "Print the forms and buy some stamps, dumbass."

$70 to file taxes?  Really?  I bought the software for $25 and filing was free.

Last time I checked, if you sat down with a calculator, paper, and pencil, it was 42 cents for the stamp when you got done.

It's amazing how generous liberals are when it comes to other people's money.  With their own, meh, not so much.

Considering that the scamming dummie is drawing unemployment, they should have qualified to use one of the various free e-files that are linked to on the IRS home page. All the major tax prep companies offer a free online filing service for qualified people.

But how are you supposed to get your RapidRapeRefundLoan if you file it yourself?  I mean, really, can we really wait 7 days for a direct deposit?   :thatsright:

The mind is a horrible thing to waste  :thatsright:

I have over a dozen email accounts and have never gotten one.  I have more prescription drug offers at low cost than anything.

Me too.

That, and offers to meet singles online, even though I've been married (this time) for over 6 years, and for 23 years before that....

I have a yahoo mail acct and a gmail. I get tons of those Nigerian letters, lots of porn type offers, some raunchy, and lots of other scam stuff. I wonder if buying lots of stuff online makes you more likely to get the scam letters, I know it does the other crap.
