I have a daughter who will be 15 in less than a month. She asked us to take her to a Tea Party and we obliged (we were going anyway). She asks me to turn up the talk radio. She debates with her teachers (a couple of whom are conservative).
This daughter has shown an amazing talent for drawing. For the last 4 or 5 years she has literally blown us away with her artistic talent and we (as parents do) have high hopes for her.
This morning I started receiving messages on my cell phone. LOTS of messages coming in one behind another. I looked at the first one and it was a drawing, poster sized from what I could tell, of Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr. and Barack Obama with DC in the background. The second one came in while I was trying to figure out what the first one was and it was the same thing. A third and fourth came in ... as I looked at them I realized they were a picture of a design for a mural.
I was getting upset with all these messages coming in and the pictures I was being sent. I didn't know the phone number so I tried to call it to demand they cease and desist!! When I was dialing the number yet another message came in (Oh man I was fuming!). This one was a text message and it said;
"Hey dad, it's me *daughters name*, we have to paint this in a classroom. I refused to. I'll talk to you about it when I get home. Luv U, *daughters name*.
Our school has interior murals painted on the walls and my daughter is like one of the best artists at her high school. LOL I almost spit coffee out of my nose!
Anyway, just wanted to share.

Awesome.
Keep up the good work.

This CR chairwoman is very impressed... :-) we need more young ladies like your daughter to raise their heads high and show that they will not back down for having an unpopular opinion (well, one that is unpopular among her peers). It's tough growing up conservative, especially if it starts early like with her, but clearly, she has proven that she can handle it. Well done, Texacon! :cheersmate:

Two words: Ronald Reagan.

She is going to ask the art teacher if they can switch out 'O' for Washington or Jefferson. We'll see where it goes. Her whole contention to her teacher was "He hasn't DONE anything yet!"
:lmao:

Thanks! She is .... NOT shy when it comes to matters politic. She has one teacher who is very, very conservative and they have some interesting conversations.

I have a very well-done pencil drawing of a Reagan picture. I love having it in my home. :)

Thanks! We haven't done a lot. Both of my kids are fairly well in tune with politics but the daughter has really taken a shine to it. The son has taken a different turn and is thinking about going to college to teach history. He is really getting in to studying the founding fathers and what went down to create the US.
We really haven't done anything special. We talk about history quite a lot, watch a lot of history channel, have fun with politics and include the kids in just about everything we can when it involves either of these subjects. When my wife was the state coordinator for the Second Amendment Sisters she gave a speech in Austin at a gun rights rally. The kids were pretty small at the time but we thought it was important for them to see it and it was amazing what kind of questions we got out of them afterward.
I truly think one of the things that have helped my kids is the money side of things. When they were around 7 and 8 we went to Wal-Mart and bought these little check books for them. We took a 5 gallon water bottle and started putting money in it and it was the 'Bank'. Anytime someone gave them money for a birthday or something they had to put it in the water bottle and write their 'deposit' in the register of their check book. They had to know how much money they had in their checking account if they wanted to buy something or I charged them an overdraft fee (it was like a dime). I also used it to fine them whenever they left a light on or something. This really seemed to open their eyes in a lot of areas ..... so, when we have politicians talking about borrowing money or charging someone taxes for something they seem to pay special attention. I thought it was a great learning tool for a lot of different aspects of life.
When they get older we'll give them the checks they had to write us when they were little. Some of those things are hilarious! Wait until they see the memo line for what they bought when they were 7 and how much they paid for it.
