1. What are you? Tom Cruise? "modern psychiatry is a quack science"???
Um - no it really isn't
Now I will agree with you that kids are being overmedicated, but this is the fault of the pharmaceutical industry, not Psychiatry.
Also most ADD and ADHD prescriptions come from General Practitioners, not Psychiatrists
But keep playing.

2. Psychiatry isn't a science, period
many individual psychiatrists will readily admit that.

There's no such thing as 'a chemical balance in the brain' which is what the entire field of psychiatry is based on. There's no possible way to test for such an 'imbalance.' It's an impressive, scientific sounding terminology they like to throw at their patients to make it sound like they know what they're talking about. But no actual test is ever done so how can they know that? It's a fraud. You don't have to be freaking Tom Cruise to figure that out.

4. Dude you are talking out of your a** so much it stinks in here!
Do they use the Scientific Method? Yes
Does Scientology? No
And yes, there is a chemical balance to the brain. If I give you too much Seratonin, you get happy. Afterwards, you are not.
I realize you are probably affiliated with that 70's mind control cult, so you are not open to reason.
Oh my. The tavern primitive must have been looking in a big mirror, when he said that.

10. The **** are you blabbering about? I grew up as an undiagnosed ADD kid (nobody knew) there even WAS such as thing as ADD back then). All my life, I heard the same thing from everyone: "You're so intelligent; why aren't youre graedes better?"
I started medication for ADD in 1992, as a 38-year-old adult. My 12-year-old son is uncontrollable without his Straterra.
Don't you DARE question the reality of ADD / ADHD. I, for one, know it's REAL.
Chief S itting Bull, playing the victim as usual; nothing new here.

13. Yes - now if they can just prescribe me some anti-asshole meds, I'll be fine

16. Now. THAT's funny. I could use some of that myself.
Now, that's funny. Why would Chief S itting Bull want to be protected against himself?
Doug's ex-wife shows up, but only to show up.

There's not enough psychiatry or medicine on the planet to fix the stupid the primitives possess.
.

Psychiatry does involve an awful lot of booga-booga shamanism, but it's not TOTAL BS.

You're right. 99% is not total. Psychiatry is a spiritual placebo.

I'd be generous and go about a 90-10 mix, myself.

I'll split the difference and say 95%-5%.

It depends upon what psychiatry is used for.
For the record, I myself have seen psychiatrists about half a dozen times in my adult life, each and every one of them having something to do with "evaluating" my "hearing" (quotation marks of course all sarcastic); generally two visits each time, but a couple of times only one time.
Psychiatry, like "reason," is meant to be a tool to reach some end, not an end itself.
(In my instance, not to give me hearing, or to help me "cope" better living a life not hearing, but simply to measure, to evaluate, if the techniques instinctively developed from within the womb, to deal with it, have been effective.)
Psychiatry, like "reason," is NOT the god who solves and fulfills; only God can do that.
Psychiatry, like "reason," works IF that is understood from the beginning.
Otherwise, both psychiatry and "reason" are another couple of false idols.

Coach, I have to disagree with you on the last statement. They are a couple of false idols if--and only if--they are the sole tools used for a diagnosis. God provides said tools to us, his lost souls, to get to Him. If those tools are used in conjunction with Him to get to a diagnosis, then they'd be a good thing, wouldn't they be?
Granted, a lot of those who use such tools do not use God in their diagnoses, much less acknowledge Him. But some do.

I don't often admit this but...
Several years ago I had an anxiety attack that I thought was a heart attack. The ER doctor suggested that I learn stress management. The anxiety attack was so severe that I thought he might be right. I looked in the yellow pages and the only person I could find that specialized in stress management was a psychiatrist. I made an appointment. At the appointment I explained to her that the ER doctor thought I needed to learn stress management. Then she asked me the following questions:
1. Can you tell me what you ate last night? (I told her)
2. Can you tell me the last three presidents? (I told her)
3. Can you say the alphabet backwards from 'z'? (I made it to z, y, x, w before she said stop)
4. Do you have any problems sleeping? (At the time I didn't)
5. Does anyone in your family suffer mental illness? (I told her no)
6. Have you ever been diagnosed with a mental illness? (I told her no)
From those six questions she claimed that I was suffering from stress related anxiety with signs of depression.
Now I can understand how she diagnosed the stress related anxiety because I had told her that I was there to learn stress management, but I have no idea how she got depression from those answers. Maybe the fact that I was laughing as I answered them made her think I was depressed.
She gave me a prescription for Zoloft and made another appointment in two weeks. That was it.
Now I don't know how Zoloft affects other folks, but it only did one thing for me. I'm sure most have heard the phrase: "Elvis has left the building". Well, Zoloft turned my "Elvis" into George "No Show" Jones.
At the next appointment (two weeks later) I told her that I might not be crazy yet, but if I went another two weeks without sex I'm sure I would become stressed, depressed, and crazy. She actually laughed and gave me Viagra to go along with the Zoloft.
Needless to say I stopped taking the Zoloft and never went back.

Now THAT'S funny - not the side effects of Zoloft - but the way you worded it. H5!

It's my opnion that about 90% of the children on psych drugs is due to having lazy parents.
Plus I have heard of many public school teachers encouraging parents to get the students on meds.

The DUer says that, if kids are overmedicated, it's the fault of the pharmaceutical companies, not the doctors. I don't see how that could be.

Yup.
But they have to blame someone, so let's blame BIG PHARM.
They have no clue, alot of the drugs they are talking about are now generic!
DUmmies run to get on welfare, so they can become the pharmacy's customers!
