Title: The black-white divide in Obama's popularity
Post by: thundley4 on April 29, 2009, 11:00:49 AM
Quote
On his 100th day in office, Barack Obama enjoys high job approval ratings, no matter what poll you consult. But if a new survey by the New York Times is accurate, the president and some of his policies are significantly less popular with white Americans than with black Americans, and his sky-high ratings among African-Americans make some of his positions appear a bit more popular overall than they actually are.
Asked whether their opinion of the president is favorable or unfavorable, 49 percent of whites in the Times poll say they have a favorable opinion of Obama. Among blacks the number is 80 percent. Twenty-one percent of whites say their view of the president is unfavorable, while the number of blacks with unfavorable opinions of Obama is too small to measure.
Those opinion differences are clear in the traditional "right track-wrong track" question, a key indicator of the public's mood. Thirty-four percent of whites say the country is headed in the right direction, while 56 percent believe it is "seriously off track." For black Americans, 70 percent say the country is headed in the right direction, with just 23 percent saying it is off track. (According to the U.S. Census, blacks make up about 13 percent of the population, while whites make up about 80 percent. The Times poll divided respondents into black and white, with no other groups reported.)
On the economy, 55 percent of whites in the poll say they approve of the way the president is handling the issue. Among blacks, the number is 91 percent. Thirty-six percent of whites disapprove of Obama's economic performance, while just two percent of blacks disapprove.
In the final count, 62 percent of whites approve of the job Obama is doing as president. Among blacks, the number is 96 percent. Together, the two groups give Obama an overall job approval rating of 68 percent. It seems reasonable to guess that if Obama's approval begins to slip in the future, it will likely go down among whites before it goes down among blacks. A continued high rating among black Americans will be a valuable pillar of support for the president, should he one day find himself in political trouble.

I can almost guarantee that 0Bama's support among blacks will remain high, at least publicly. Given that, I also think that the MSM can keep 0Bama's poll numbers artificially high, just by who and where they poll.

Oh, what I wouldn't give to see the internals of THAT poll, who, where, and when they called.

I can't really fault the big majority of Blacks for backing him to the hilt, they have been fed a diet of bull-crap about how The Man (i.e. Bush) is keeping them down by the Commie-Dems and miscellaneous affiliated race pimps for as long as most of them have been paying adults, even though most of the facts on which it was based fell away in the early 80s.  Hell, if I was Black, under 40, not wealthy, not a doctor, and not interested in RKBA or Choice issues, I'd probably think it was damn' cool to have a Presizzledent.  It's just the nature of the political process that identity will play a big role, not just issues.

Sadly true. Equally sad is how many otherwise smart people can put so much faith and stock in gummint. Boggles the mind, really.

You think one day they'd wake up and wonder why that 45 years after LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act and the implimentation of The Great Society things, for the most part, haven't gotten any better for them.  Like you said, "the man" can't work his magic for that long.  I've come to the conclusion they like being treated like children.

Hi,

Didn't Martin Luther King once say ,"I look foreward to the day that a man is judged on his deeds, not on the color of his skin."...or something like that?  Boy I agree with Dr. King.

This, and the election, clearly points out to me that issues, qualifications etc. all take a back seat to skin color among the black population.  Dr. King would be appaled at what the black leadership has done to the black community with over 50% of the kids in inner city schools not even graduating.  Unlike Jesse and others, I doubt Dr. King would blame that problem on the evil, rich white man....

What a sad thing to see,

People have to realize that Obama is not the first Black President, he is the seventh. Many Blacks will publicly say they support Obama, while in private many do not support him.

You may have already gotten it - from an e-mail today - but still funny

For years they said we would have a black president when pigs flew - well 100 days into his administration we have "Swine Flu" - go figure

The only prob with this is they are only backing him because of RACE! Damn it! Isn't this the same thing they bitch about with white people?

In a perfect world we would worry more about policy than race. Unfortunately, it just ain't goin' to happen, is it?

The Obama crew and deciples are openly racist and anti-Capitalist. This gives them a leg up with many "people of Color" , as all the imagined faults are blamed on white capitalists by Obama.

Already got some of that stuff, plus a couple of modern BP pieces. All I need is wheel weight metal , some pyrodex, a few percussion caps and the brass I don't need to worry about.

Plus, I have 34 wild turkey that wander past several times a week and about 8-10 live venison on the hoof that go by every few days, a few are very young and tender.

But B. Hussein is proving to be the empty suit most of us who post here clearly saw from day one.
