Actress Bea Arthur, who starred in the US television sitcom The Golden Girls, has died in Los Angeles, aged 88.
Arthur, who played Dorothy Zbornak to the late Estelle Getty's Sophia Petrillo, died at home of cancer, a family spokesman said.
She was also famous for her role in the sitcom Maude, first creating the character in the comedy series All In The Family.
Arthur also won an Emmy Award for the musical Mame.

RIP Bea. She was so funny in Golden Girls.
Bea could say more with a look or a jesture than she could with the lines. She brought to the put-upon and luckless Dorothy Zbornak a grace and charm the character did not deserve.
Dorothy: "Why don't I just wear a sign that says 'Too ugly to live'?
Blanche: "Fine, but what are you going to hang it from - the chain or the pearls?"
Dorothy: "Neither! I'm going to spray paint it on my hump!"

Always found her to be somewhere between "Unlikable" and "Downright hateful" myself.

She was the inspiration for one of my favorite internet pics:
