Face it folks as much as everyone wanted the US Captain hostage by scumbag Somali Muslim Terrorist Pirates (SMTPs) saved the situation ended ugly with 3 head shots to the SMTPs left on the lifeboat to guard the hostage while clearly the lifeboat was under tow by the US destroyer and one pirate now in the US was on board the destroyer negotiating and receiving medical treatment for a hand wound. Such circumstances are inconceivable unless the SMTPs believed they were under a flag of truce while all that was going on.
For them to be summarily executed under those circumstances is the most cynical things I've seem of late and borders on the Waco incineration of 80 people including 22 children in Waco 16 years again by Janet Reno and Bill Clinton. Both should be in Fed Pen for that travesty.
Obama's dilly dallying around lead to the SMTPs Geneva Violation travesty since if the order to use lethal force had been issued early on before Captain Phillips tried to save himself by jumping from the lifeboat those scaumbag SMTPs would have been summarily gunned down and all killed under honorable circumstances and the hostage crisis would have been over within a couple days. Instead Obama fiddled around and fretted Oh what to do, what to do to same my image and Presidency which was rapidly heading down the tubes due to his mishandling of the whole situation.
Then a stroke of luck, high winds, a choppy sea and the ruse of further negotiations which the SMTPs either initiated or fell for. A typical Muslim ploy either way by the SMTPs or by Obama when things aren't going too good for whatever reason. In any case the lifeboat is taken under tow, no doubt under a flag of truce and the SMTP leader boards the US destroyer for further negotiations and medical treatment. Pop, Pop, Pop 3 head shots and the US Captain is saved or more relevate Obama's Presidency is saved.
So be it!
But now enter Obama's hypocrasy as in enters the use by US of harsh intterogation techniques like waterboarding on know high level Al Qaeda operatives who caused 3000 murders in the US on 9/11 now in US custody, which we find out killed no one even when used multiple times and which produce results and the guys it was used on are still alive with with no bullet holes in their brains.
Obama clearly violated the Geneva Convention, specifically Article 37 of Protocol 1.
Once this scumbag SMTP is put on trial and gets his hand slapped in domestic criminal courts Obama should be impeached, then summarily arrested and extradicted and tried for perhaps the most cynical of all "war" crimes.

As little use as I have for the whole Obama administration, that article was as ****ed-up as a soup sandwich. The Geneva Convention does not apply to mere criminals, whether in the US, in other countries, or on the high seas, because the reduction of piracy is not "International armed conflict" under the GC. We bend over backwards to apply the conventions in land ops, we could be much more restrictive about treating scum like al Q'aeda as PWs if out leadership chose to go that way.

I think the author was using some of the lefts own arguments for prosecuting 0Bama. Since they want to charge Bush with war crimes and violating the Geneva Convention for the treatment of enemy combatants.

If so, he needs to stop trying to out-stupid the Democrats, and just try making a rational argument instead.

For all I know he may have been a Dem, since the item came from Slate.com. That isn't exactly a conservative site. The person does have a point somewhat about the events taking place under a so-called "flag of truce", though. The pirates were temporarily cooperating by letting themselves be towed towards safer waters. Of course we know if 0Bama was pushed on this, then suddenly it would be the seals that acted without authority.

Absolutely true but Obama is extending citizenship right as well as Geneva Convention protections to people who are lawful in neither regard. The fact is Obama is deciding ad hoc which laws he will enforce and under what circumstances.
