Oh my.
Cleveland Indians humiliate New York Yankees with 22-4 rout that includes worst inning in Yankees history
NEW YORK -- By the end of Saturday's massacre at the new Yankee Stadium, it was difficult to tell who was more fatigued: the arms in the Yankees bullpen or the people behind the manual scoreboards in the outfield.
The Indians blasted the Yankees and starting pitcher Chien-Ming Wang in a 22-4 rout that was beamed on national television, and featured the worst inning in Yankees' franchise history. Wang teamed up with reliever Anthony Claggett (making his big league debut) to surrender a franchise record 14 runs on 13 hits in the second inning, which lasted 37 excruciating minutes.
The last time the Indians scored that many runs in a frame was in 1950 against the Philadelphia Athletics. The last time a big-league team scored 14 runs in an inning was the Boston Red Sox back in 2003.
Wang's performance -- which resembled batting practice, only the balls were hit harder -- was particularly frightening.....
You know, I read some time ago--long long before this current season--that historically the Cleveland Indians are the only baseball team not afraid of America's team, the New York Yankees.
And so this is no surprise; excresence happens.

Sorry but :rotf:.
Who the hell is afraid of the NY Yankees????

That's "historically," a trend going clear back to the beginning of professional baseball.
Of course there's been ups and downs, as it's been a very long time.
But on average over a long period of time, apparently the Cleveland Indians have never been as daunted by the prospect of facing America's team, as compared with other teams when facing America's team.
I suspect, for example, that the team uniform for the Boston Red Sox includes brown pants, when playing America's team. Maybe not always, but usually.

H5, Coach!
Though, the new Yankee Stadium might soon be used to launch commercial satelites, with the way that balls are flying out of it. If I was a pitcher that tended to get fly-ball outs, I'd absolutely hate going to the Bronx, and I would tell my agent to see that I never wound up on the Yankees, as my stats would be artifically inflated. About eleven miles away, the park plays like a pitcher's park (Bailout CitiField), and if I was a hitter, I would tell my agent to do anything to make sure that I never wound up with the Mets, unless I could hit into the gaps or was lightning-fast on the basepaths.

Uh no.
I am sure the Mets fans may lose sleep over and cry out for their mommies when it happens, but the Red Sox do not fear any team. Historically.

While the Yankees' offense was four times better than the Mets' O was yesterday, their defense was infinitally worse. One can say that the Red Sox defense was also infinitally worse, seeing as the Mets gave up zero runs. Tough to lose if you keep the other team off the scoreboard.
I tend to think that Nelson Figueroa will not be quite as lucky for the Mets today. The Mets sure as all Hell don't fear the Brew Crew, or the Dodgers, or the Phillthies, or the Braves, or the Marlins, or the . . . You get my drift. When you have one of the two or three LHSPs in baseball (Hamels and Sabathia being the others), that happens.
As for the Skankees, as Ken Rosenthal points out in the link below, they've had 17 home runs hit in their first three games at the new Yankee Stadium.

So May 4th is home run derby day. Ortiz can pad his stats. :cheersmate:

Don't laugh, but they've got a better record than the Sox. I know, I know--the Angels suck too. Then again, I remember an April a few years back when the Angels went 6-14 to start the season. Oh, dear, what happened that year again? Oh yeah--they won the Series.
That also being said, it's not looking pretty for the staff thus far. Guererro out for at least a month (probably closer to six weeks) and Lackey not yet ready. At least the Angels outfield is stacked deeper than Obama's bullshit.

Yeah, he's gonna need SOMETHING, considering his BA thus far:
LINKY (http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/sortable_player_stats.jsp?c_id=mlb&baseballScope=AL&subScope=teamCode&teamPosCode=BOS&statType=1&timeSubFrame=2009&sitSplit=&venueID=&Submit=Submit&timeFrame=1)
.186 BA, 1 extra base hit, NO home runs, 12 strikeouts in 43 AB. What was that you chose to ignore about him cheating on his stance so he could get around on the fastballs, but missing badly if someone threw him anything BUT a heater?
You know you're gripping when you have a BA BELOW your sucky elderly catcher.
Good thing you've got Youk, Bay, and Drew saving your asses at this point, otherwise you'd be looking up at the Rays AGAIN.
BTW--think Tito/Theo are gonna let Dice-K pitch in the WBC again? Me either. At least not while he's with the Sox.

Only one place he can go, right?
(He's on my fantasy team.)

Anything that p!ss's off old George tickles my funny bone. Damn, that must have been painfull for him to watch. :rotf:  :fuelfire:

Ol' Georgie is in the semi-advanced stages of dementia, so it's doubtful that he'd even know what was going on from one pitch to the next.

Hey they intentionally walked Tek last night. I think that was the first time....ever.
Ortiz is just totally off. I am not giving him a pass at all.

Which really screwed my fantasy team. Damnit...

I was born in Cleveland and spent about 10 years of my childhood in the area and some of my adulthood.
I'll always be an Indian fan.
One thing about many Cleveland fans... They aren't fair weather fans... For the most part they support their teams even when they are losing.
I know the Indians are way overdue for a Series win IMO. They always manage to choke during the playoffs.

Why do you suppose the Cleveland Indians are the only team never afraid of the New York Yankees? Any history behind that?

No idea. There were only three HRs hit yesterday, so that brings the total up to 20 for four games. :o :o :o

Which explains the five bitch-slaps you've given me over the past week.
Sorry, that dog won't hunt. The truth is a bitch, and she's in heat. If the last two weeks are any indication, it's gonna be a looooooonnnnnngggg year in Red Sox Nation.

Sparky -- I am not bitchslapping you. You are pissing someone off, but it isn't me.
I have been mumbling that the Red Sox are looking like Detroit of last year, but it's early so no panic mode yet.

Frank, the Angels look forward to playing the Yankees every year. They kick the crap out of them.* Historically.
* It is the only thing the Angels are good for. I can't believe that Sparky hasn't corrected you on this yet.
-
Right now, the Angels aren't "kicking the crap" out of anyone. I'll man up enough to admit that.

Funny how I get another one when mentioning the Sox. Guess someone isn't man enough to step up and admit it. I'm not sayin who, but post anti-Sox, get BS. Just sayin....

Maybe it's Cujo in invisible mode. ROFLMAO.
On a semi-side note--the NBA playoffs, Sox, and Boston Marathon preps all going on this past weekend? That God I wasn't anywhere near that mess.
