Investigating judge Baltasar Garzon has the final say on whether to proceed or shelve the case.

"MADRID, Spain (CNN) -- Prosecutors will recommend that a Spanish court drop its investigation of six former officials in the administration of U.S. George W. Bush for alleged torture of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, Spain's attorney general said Thursday.

The claim against the former officials, presented by a human rights group and provisionally accepted last month at the court -- pending an opinion from the prosecutors - threatens to turn the court "into a toy in the hands of people who are trying to do a political action," Attorney General Candido Conde-Pumpido said at a meeting at a downtown Madrid hotel.

"We undoubtedly cannot support that action," Conde-Pumpido said.

If alleged torture at Guantanamo is going to be investigated at all, that should be done first in the United States, so that the former American officials would have a chance to defend themselves there, Conde-Pumpido added, according to his press chief, Fernando Noya.

The prosecutors will inform the investigating judge, Baltasar Garzon, of their decision, and the judge would then have to decide whether to proceed or shelve the case, Noya said." CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/04/16/spain.guantanamo/)

Bill O'Reilly is gladly accepting responsibility for this because of his call for a boycott of everything spain.

Does anyone know what spain makes?  I've been wracking my brain and I can't seem to come up with anything that they make which I would want.

My dad got me a really nice Spanish fan there on a business trip when I was younger.

Oh, and they make Chorizo.

Yeah, I saw him (yesterday, I think) on his show gloating about how Spain backed down because they must have all been scared of him and his power. He and his guests were wondering the same thing - what exactly was there to boycott - and all I can remember them saying is tourism.

In any event, I'm glad to hear Spain decided not to go the DUmp route on this.

I get all of my olive oil from spanish vineyards.  It's a good thing I don't give a rat's ass what Bill O'Really says or "thinks", otherwise we'd have to go to low quality Italian oil.

Well, some spanish wine is good and inexpensive. Plus they make a nice folding knife. But, that's about it.

Tourism is their major business, and they WERE weighing that, LONG before our pal O'Reilly mentioned it.

Yeah, but I'm a racist bigoted CONSERVATIVE, clinging to my religion and my guns.  I would be branded a race traitor by the rest of the VRWC if I were to do that.

Rhetorical question - one needs to be nuts to be a DUmmy.  :-) Although Ive not noticed, I'm sure there are plenty of threads bitching about BillO over this issue.

Well, Six, a white Armenian-American Christian former lawn mower repairman from Long Island has an Olive Grove in N. Africa ...and he produces both oil and olives...could you buy from him? But they are expensive....but his son once drove his go-kart under a car as it drive past, and lived....but lost the suit against the driver...sdoes that make a difference?
