Guantanamo detainee claims abuse

Al-Qurani said he has been subjected to ill-treatment almost every day

An inmate in the US prison facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, has told Al Jazeera that he has been beaten while in custody and had tear gas used on him after refusing to leave his cell.

Mohammad al-Qurani, a Chadian national, said in a phone call to Al Jazeera that the alleged ill-treatment "started about 20 days" before Barack Obama became US president and "since then I've been subjected to it almost every day".

"Since Obama took charge he has not shown us that anything will change," he said.

On his second day in office, Obama ordered the closure of the prison, which has been heavily criticised by rights groups over reports of ill-treatment of detainees.

Obama also signed an order ending the harsh interrogation of prisoners - including the waterboarding technique that causes detainees to feel like they are drowning.

The prison camp was set up by the Bush administration in 2002 to hold prisoners it detained as part of its so-called war on terror.

Several hundred detainees have since been released but more than 240 prisoners remain there, including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who is suspected of planning the September 11, 2001, attacks on the US.

Wow, what a surprise........ NOT!!!!!

primitives are brainwashed.  The call that they would accept the same policies from a Dem that they would soundly reject from a Republic was too easy to make.

Oh my.

Here it is, about fourteen hours after that was posted, and still no primitives at the bonfire.

If it had been George Bush and not Pa Kettle, it would've ranked as one of the largest bonfires on Skins's island.

I think you're right, Sarasota.  I heard on the news this morning that O will not be persuing prosecution of anyone who did aggressive interrogation under Bush.  Wouldn't this have most of them over there howling mad?  Some people said before that if zero failed to jail all the Bushies over this, it would be a deal-breaker for them and they would abandon their messiah.

They might . . . but only in the voting booth, where no one can see their vote.

I have a theory as to torture, Bush, and Obama, so hear me out.

Remember how many times in the past Obama gave his detractors enough rope to hang themselves?

Well with the torture memos, Obama is doing the same thing.
The Bush goons and their cheerleaders are in the process of destroying themselves, including Cheney with his wild claims about "Obama is making the US less safe."

These people are going to be falling over each other, accusing each other of torture.

Meanwhile, Obama sits back and works on whats more important now, especially the economy.

This saves the Obama people a lot of wear and tear, letting the former Bush people rip each other apart.

You know, that's very interesting.

If Pa Kettle's doing something about the economy, how come he's never home?

He's in Mexico now, instead of the White House fixing the economy.

of course they are silent. They have just been told to shut up. They can't criticize O on the most important topic yet... prosecuting the 'torturers'
