They're furious that our response to solving the problem is to raise taxes. They don't think we've cut enough, and they don't think we're doing things differently," says one Democratic lawmaker. "Now there's an arsenal of ammunition that the Republican minority will no doubt use to take back the Senate next year."
With voters pointing fingers at them, Democrats are pointing at the WFP. Says another Democratic lawmaker: "A lot of members were surprised by how much money we spent. There's going to be a backlash against some of the people who were advocating for these kinds of changes."
Republicans, naturally, agree. "We could run Santa Claus against them, and we're going to win. They are totally captive to an ultra-radical agenda," a GOP source told me.
Most troubling for Democrats is that it's next year's election that is the crucial one. Last year's victory will be meaningless if Republicans win and control redistricting, which begins after the 2010 Census.
The mistake made by Majority Leader Malcolm Smith and the Senate Democrats was thinking the WFP had no other goal beyond helping them seize power. The WFP made clear its intentions, but Smith and most of his colleagues either sympathized with them or ignored them.
The WFP offered Democrats an irresistible offer -- a ready-made, groundswell of college kids, unemployed people and union workers to bang on doors, pass out literature and herd voters to the polls. All Democrats had to do was fork over cash.
But they should have known the WFP soldiers weren't mercenaries, nor loyal Democrats. "We don't want just a change of parties. We want a change of policies," Daniel Levitan, a WFP spokesman, told me last fall.

here's their propaganda sheet -
The Working Families Party is fighting for a more just world.
One where the economy works for everyone. One where politicians are held accountable to working people, instead of big-money backers. One where all of us, no matter where we come from, can find a good job, get healthcare when we need it, afford a home, send our kids to good schools, and have a secure retirement.
We’re fighting to bring back the American Dream, and we want you to join us.

Yes, it is the communist party wearing a new name tag. They are like the used car lot down on the corner of Corkscrew and Bendover. They have to change their name everytime the rent is due.
