What's with the "Rah-Rah! USA! USA!" sentiment on here regarding the maritime hostage situation?
It's a little disconcerting. I find myself comparing it to the gladiatorial bread and circuses of the former Roman empire. There is a certain amount of blood lust that shows itself in situations like this and I find it rather disgusting.

1. You don't think it a good thing the captain was rescued unharmed?
"bread and circuses of the former Roman empire??"

Geez, chill out

12. It's an apt description.
Only now the arena is a television screen.

It's absurd.
Save your venom for the big issues.

Such hyperventilating hyperbole limits your being taken seriously about things other than the rescue of someone kidnapped and threatened with death.

60. I love it how people will change an argument to conform to their world views.

Like you have done. I was merely pointing out the bloodlust that has been prevalent in the past few days while this all played out. That is the real venom.

2. Human nature. It is natural to cheer for the life of an innocent
and to wish harm to criminals who would kill that innocent person

How about showing the same concern when it comes to little babies ?

3. How would you have preferred it turn out?
The Navy did what it was trained for, and the hostage was released. I have no sympathy for the pirates who were killed in the process.

an excellent job of freeing one of our countrymen who was taken by pirates? Sometimes, we cheer our own country. What do you find wrong with rescuing an American ship captain?

Now they support our military.

I thought I was on the wrong board for a minute, reading some of the so-called "liberal" and "progressive" crap. The blood-lust by far too many supposed "liberals" on here is sickening.

This black-white-no-shades-of-gray bullshit is as far from "progressive" and "liberal" as it gets. And that's nothing whatso****ingever to do with "pacifist".

64. It means killing the right people. Which we did.
sometimes please does not work. They had a hostage, they did not give him up. Killing them is as black and white as they come.

There are some...actually a LOT of people over there that despise the U.S. no matter who is in office.

Where are the calls of "we're only making more terrorists" and "not our fight" or "let the chickenhawks enlist"?

All this bravado is the pussies glad their PinC had a chance to flex. Let some one they don't like--say, oh I dunno...ISRAEL--pop a few 2-legged flea bags and watch the little apes fling shit and holler.

78. The self-righteousness around here is just sickening...
...I suppose we should always give international kidnappers the sympathy and kindness they so clearly deserve. What is grabbing a non-military cargo vessel, holding its captain hostage at gunpoint for several days, and firing upon a US Navy ship during negotiations if not a trenchant political statement...or simply a cry for help?

And I have no idea why people should have been interested in media coverage of this story--what concern of ours is it if one of our countrymen lives or dies at the hands of self-proclaimed pirates? We deserved the kidnapping, of course--we're Americans.

Trouble maker! RW Freeper! You blood-luster, you! Great thread, I wanted to take a hammer to most of them. And not the banning type. :hammer: :-)

In the same line of thought as Mr Snuggle Bunny suggested, turn back the clock one year and this was done with Bush in office and I'm sure we can all agree their current cheers would all have turned to expressions of evil American imperialism and how he just wanted to kill some brown people.

Hey DUmmies, you aren't fooling anybody.  Your whole viewpoint of events has nothing to do with what's best for the country and everything to do with who's in office at the time.  You're proving yourselves to still be anti-American trash, every last one of you.

Unless that innocent person is a cop and the murderer is that tarantula-haired fool Mumia Abu-Jamal, right?  ::)

C'mon Reb...you should know the DUmmy mindset by now...the U.S. is ALWAYS the bad guy and the cop killer is ALWAYS "innocent".  It's our fault he's that way.  He just couldn't help it.

Well, it looks like some of the blackness is off the Obama rose. The left is so busy throwing people under the bus it's a wonder they have any passengers.

Obama gets a thumbs up from me for giving the OK to take out the Somali pirates. That had to be tough especially since with the way his dad populated the region one of them could have been a close relative.

O RLY? Do Tell!

She released some departure dates for her hubby's unit about 3 years ago that she wasn't supposed to....not to mention sitting htere on a militayr base bashing the troops..Iraq..W...oh and her hubby would use her screen name to do the same thing.

So I notified the command group at 4th ID of what was going on.

She had a meltdown about it over at DU.

The best part of it was/is the fact they had a mole at the DUmp tracking what she was doing and saying.

They had the IT folks set up a computer w/ internet access outside the military network so they could access DU.

As far as I know that mole has never been discovered.
