Title: Obama rejects Normandy trip to avoid offending Germany
Post by: USA4ME on April 10, 2009, 10:55:22 AM
Quote from:
Barack Obama, concerned about offending Britain and Germany, rebuffed strenuous attempts by President Nicolas Sarkozy of France to persuade the new American president to make a trip to Normandy this week.

White House officials travelled to France at the start of March to discuss a visit by Mr Obama to Omaha Beach, the site of the American Cemetery, established in 1944 just after D-Day and where 9,387 American personnel are buried. Among them is Theodore Roosevelt Jr the eldest son of the 26th US President.

French officials and senior American military officers walked with White House staff through the cemetery discussing how the two presidents might follow the same route. But even before their trip, the White House had decided that Mr Obama would not travel there this week.

"It wasn't going to happen," said an American official in Washington. "We went through the motions to placate President Sarkozy but giving special treatment to France was not on our agenda.

"During this trip, we wanted to maintain a balance between the British, German and France". A White House spokesman in London declined to comment. Last month, White House officials briefed that a Normandy visit had been considered but it had not been logistically possible.

Good Lord, his aides have a way with words in pissing off people they supposedly want to befriend.
England:  'No special relationship.'
France:  'Went through the motions, giving special treatment to France not on the agenda.'
Germany (Politically, rabid disowners of the Reich):  'Going to Normandy might displease them.'

The entire Protocol operation seems to be staffed with two former PTA members who never left their own small town until called to serve by the Opresident.  WTF are they thinking?

How could honoring the lives lost during WWII be considered an insult to anyone?  This jackass takes every opportunity available to snub the military.  :censored: you, 0Bama.

Why can't Normandy be seen as liberating the German people from tyranny?

A good rhetoritician would know that.

Just when I thought I couldn't be anymore disappointed.

He's got 45 months left.  You'll be amazed the depths of disappointment which he'll reach by then.  Like I said, Carter looks good by comparison.

I dunno.

I'm glad Ma and Pa Kettle aren't going.

They make America look bad, wherever they go, and so probably it's a good idea Ma and Pa Kettle stayed home.

You're right Frank, the Kettles would probably use the opportunity to relieve themselves on the graves when no one was looking.

They'll do it in honor of James Earl Jones.

By NOT going, they're pissing on the graves of those brave men. God, the Obamas are an embarassment.

Now thats just wrong on so many levels -- Perhaps the greatest example of American bravery and sacrifice and Barry passes. Who cares what the Germans may or may not think.

Next thing we will no longer recognize the 4th of July because it may offend the British, or Thanksgiving & Columbus Day because it may offend some Native Americans. Screw that. It is what it is, and what happened is of massive historic significance.

I wonder what those who have been affected by the Holocaust think ? I wonder how many others are offended by Obama not going.. Even though I'm not adversely affected at all by WWII (AFAIK I lost no relatives, and my ancestors left Europe long before any of that crap happened -I'm actually directly descended from The Raggies (See: Revolutionary War)) I still understand the level of offence Dear Leader has just produced.

Why not?  There's parts of America that doesn't call it Columbus Day anymore because he's supposedly racist/genocidal.

My sentiments...just when you think he's reached bottom, he finds the basement.
