3 Police Officers Killed, 2 Injured In Pittsburgh Shooting
POSTED: 9:13 am EDT April 4, 2009
UPDATED: 3:12 pm EDT April 4, 2009
PITTSBURGH -- Three police officers were killed and two others were injured in an unprecedented shooting in Pittsburgh's Stanton Heights neighborhood Saturday morning, where as many as 70 to 80 rounds may have been fired.
WTAE Channel 4 reported at the shooting scene that the suspect was identified as Richard "Pop" Poplawski, 23. Officers arrested Poplawski within the 11 a.m. hour.
[A childhood friend of Poplawski, identified as Edward Perkovic, said]... Poplawski feared "the Obama gun ban that's on the way" and "didn't like our rights being infringed upon."

Aw :censored: great!
Yeah, really....
Now the gun grabbing nuts will have some more ammo to push for more "gun control"....
-
Not condoning the actions of the shooter but, the police were there to take his weapons. They were answering a domestic violence complaint. Gun owners say on gun boards across America each and every day that they will not allow their guns to be confiscated by the Gov't. This one meant it. If obama tries a ban and confiscation, this scene will be repeated.

Of course there remains the possibility that the "childhood friend" is a gun grabber and is lying. Without some notes or writings of the perp, we'll not know for sure.

Oh, they were going to do that anyway. You are right it just more ammo..
It just a shame that this will be the News for weeks now, along with the shootings in NY. :fuelfire:
It is going to be hard to stop gun control as it is, now this sh@#

He didn't die. Was shot in the leg, I hear.

That's good, now if he says the same as his friend, I may believe it. However if he contradicts his friends statement, do you think the press will report it?

I heard this guy also recently lost his job/got laid off. Don't know, but that was the original newscast that came into Fox. They said he had an AK-47, also, has anyone heard that? These stories seem to change over time. In 98 I was in the middle of the gun fire when the cops came to the guy across the street from mine's house. He was in the Witness Protection Program, and was a big time dope dealer/gun dealer. Cops were coming to get him, too. This has stirred all of that up for me. I don't know why this one got to me so badly, versus the other shootings since, but I think it was because there were 5 killed that day, and the guy sprayed about 8 rounds, with an automatic. It felt like being in a mini-war. I had gone outside that day to get my sick cat, and he started running away from me, and he was heading for this nut's house, he liked to get under their deck. I had just got out from under their deck, when gunfire erupted. O.k., I just realized I need to let this subject alone, sorry for posting it here, and it being so long.

I think so. Imagine A "From my cold dead hands" headlines. The libs would have a conniption.

from article:

"The negotiators were able to talk the actor out of the home. He was apprehended and he was taken into custody," Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard said.

Of course aside from the tragedy of the lost officers, if this is the case, could lead to a snowball effect. The more scenes repeated, the more attempts at confiscation, the more scenes repeated, and so on. Maybe, I fear, to the point public opinion really does start to shift.
This is really not good for 2A rights.

If we were more like the DUmmies, we would be imagining an Obama-masterminded set-up. Let's see...who is his "Rove"?
And happy1ga, I can't imagine. I'd still be curled up in the fetal position somewhere.

This is not going to turn out well as long as they push their gun grabbing agendas.

No it will not. It will be repeated from coast to coast.
Do these liberal pukes think that we are just gonna let them disarm us, then control us.

70-80 shots fired and only 3 dead?
Somebody wasn't skilled with the use of their weapon.

Seriously, I felt like a basket case after this happened, yesterday. I have no idea why this freaked me out. It has been 10 yrs, for heaven's sake, and lots of these shootings, no one them have phased me, past just feeling sad that it occurred, but for some reason, this one threw me right back to that day, and then that time period, and my ex-husband, the wife beater. I thought I was turning into a DUmmie, for a while there. Turned out, I think I just needed to turn off the news, and take some cold meds, and a nap. Yes, the shooting I was in, in a little town of 9,000 ppl, for goodness sake, with almost zero serious crime, and they had put this guy who somehow was in Witness Protection, out there in the boonies. When they arrested him, the C. O. P. went on television and unfurled his arrest records, and they were so long, they pooled in the floor. This was a really, really bad dude. My son had just sold him oranges for school, two days before. He was a pleasant neighbor, in a old biker grungy way. Anyway, I had to see and hear these cops, 3 of them I had went through school with, scream as they bled out and died. Awful experience. The good news is, Mr. a**hole bad guy seemed to have an accident not long after he went to the pen. He was beaten to death, and stabbed. Shame that, isn't it? Cop killers deserve the worst kinds of hell, and this guy yesterday was a wife beater? Think that's what my trigger was. Anyway, I am done angsting. Thanks for the kindness.
-
Well, if it's anything like the LAPD used to do, it'll be 5-6 rounds by the perp and a few hundred by the cops.
That being said, I can't imagine that Holder, Obama, and the Brady types aren't melting down the printing presses and servers getting more anti-gun crap out.
Molon labe, bastards.

good point. he obviously wasn't like most of the responsible gun owners i know, the ones who go to the range to ensure they don't shoot more than needed.
-
I wish the cops would have offed him. I also find it disturbing that no one seems to be outright condemning him for openning fire on the police.

Just a guess, since he is white, you won't see any candle light vigil or any other vigil for his support like we saw recently out in California.

The police were responding to a domestic disturbance. Just because some guy was scared Obama was coming to take his guns doesn't excuse shooting up a bunch of police officers. Just like it doesn't excuse the guy from my hometown who shot his whole family because he thought aliens were coming to take them away.

They were called there when the gunman's mother called 911. It wasn't the first domestic disturbance they've had at the residence. Where are you getting that they went there strictly to "take away his guns." The gunman may have thought so, but that doesn't mean that's why the police were there.

Exactly.

Frankly, with a guy who has as many issues as this one did...it's when they come after the guns of law-abiding citizens who have done nothing wrong that I'll really start to get upset. This was originally a domestic disturbance call where he ambushed the cops, NOT a "gun-grab".
This guy got expelled from school, had to get a GED to get into the Marines where he promptly gets shitcanned in boot camp for assaulting his DI (and got a DD for it, not just the usual entry level separation), then afterwards developed a criminal record including a restraining order. He was a shitbag, period, and had no business with a weapon. Again, a guy like this gives the other 80,000,000 RESPONSIBLE gun owners a VERY bad name.
-
The guy was no saint and I don't condone his actions. The 1st reports said the police were there earlier on a DV complaint. They had been there several times for various complaints. One on the reports that I read early yesterday stated that the police were there to confiscate his guns, not make an arrest. If he was prohibited from owning guns, seize them and arrest him. If he was allowed to own guns, the Gov't doesn't have the right to take them for what ever reason they deem suitable. That's a concept that DU and their ilk subscribe to.

I believe his dishonorable discharge from the Marines made it illegal for him to own guns. Regardless, the police were called to the house by his mother in a 911 call. They didn't go there with the intent to confiscate his weapons. Now if you have another source saying that's the reason, I look forward to reading the link.

So you advocate letting an obviously insane person have weapons? That it is wrong for the cops to come get an obviously insane person's guns when they are threatening violence to innocents? People like this guy are the ones who get more backing for gun grabbers. Someone should have done something sooner and saved the lives of 3 cops and kept their families from being shattered by a psycho.

Up until the point of conflict yesterday, when was he judged insane?

Fight over urinating dog got police to Pa. ambush (http://www.conservativecave.com/index.php?action=post;topic=27017.15;num_replies=28)
PITTSBURGH — A 911 call that brought two police officers to a home where they were ambushed, and where a third was also later killed during a four-hour siege, was precipitated by a fight between the gunman and his mother over a dog urinating in the house.
The Saturday argument between Margaret and Richard Poplawski escalated to the point that she threatened to kick him out and she called police to do it, according to a 12-page criminal complaint and affidavit filed late Saturday.
When officers Paul Sciullo III and Stephen Mayhle arrived, Margaret Poplawski opened the door and told them to come in and take her 23-year-old son, apparently unaware he was standing behind her with a rifle, the affidavit said. Hearing gunshots, she spun around to see her son with the gun and ran to the basement.
“What the hell have you done?†she shouted.

More light to the story 24 hours later.
The police were answering a DV call. One of the things that the police do is confiscate the guns. It doesn't matter if the charge is valid or not. They were going to take his guns. That's SOP. I've been there. After the charges were proven false, I had to fight like hell to get my guns back. The attitude of the police is "we have them now, we're keeping them".

If he had a dishonorably discharge from the military, then doesn't that restrict his right to gun ownership? So if they did take his guns, wouldn't that have been within the up and up? It's not like they just randomly chose to go to this guy's house after all.
It sounds like you're conflating your situation with the police and this guy.

Yes, it does. To get a DD, one has to have been convicted by a General court-martial, the most severe of the three court-martial levels. It is, in effect, a federal felony conviction. Federal law prohibits firearm ownership of anyone given a DD, and depending on the state, forfeiture of their right to vote.

I have read he was discharged from the Marine Corp., but I didn't read what kind it was. Where did you read a DD. I heard mention of a BCD and that does not automatically ban gun ownrship.

I don't know if it's known for sure if he was dishonorably discharged (which is why I said "if"). BUT this has been reported
http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/19096134/detail.html
"Poplawski's mother said her son enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps a few years ago but was discharged for assaulting a drill sergeant in basic training. Since his discharge, Poplawski's mother said her son had been stockpiling weapons, according to the criminal complaint.
"He wasn't fully a Marine. He got a dishonorable discharge out of boot camp," Perkovic said. "He wanted to get out of the Marine Corps.""
And yes, I saw your post earlier, I replied to it. You keep talking about the police were there to confiscate his guns, when it doesn't appear and hasn't been reported that that's what happened at all.
-

Even if he didn't have a DD and had another type of discharge, the protection order he had put on him would also have prevented him from legally owning weapons if it were still in effect. And also note that he had in fact been buying and selling weapons ever since his discharge from the Corps, which means he almost certainly was in violation of the protection order at some point.
Apparently the dumbass was also posting on Stormfront, which the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (incorrectly) labels as right-wing. So while the question still hasn't been fully addressed regarding his discharge, it's pretty apparent he had no business (or legal right to) owning weapons. PERIOD.
And you can find a cached version of his buddies (Perkovic) MySpace page (before it was altered/deleted) HERE. (http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:kJwjoj92rX0J:www.myspace.com/edfromalate) You are the company you keep.
Here are a few of Perkovic's "recommended reading" lists:
DOCUMENTS I RECCOMEND YOU READ BY GOOGLE:
"Civil War II" by Tom Chittum
"The Protocols of the Elders of Zion"
"The Turner Diaries" by Dr. William Pierce
"Jewish Supremacy" by Dr. David Duke
Bottom line, he's a shitbag AND a nutbag, but that's not going to stop the gun-grabbers from trying to demonize legal gun-owners, and it's not going to stop the loopy left from trying to paint him as a "right-winger" and demonizing reasonable, rational, intelligent conservatives.
-
Up until the point of conflict yesterday, when was he judged insane?
He punched his boss in the Marines. No one who is sane would do something that stupid. He was a conspiracy theorist like one would see in the 9/11 forum on DU. I think you are fighting on the wrong side of this one. NOTHING gave him the right to open fire on police officers.
-
What little I looked at that link of Sparky's, he is anti mixing of bloodlines, and has a quote of Ariel Sharon's who he calls a zionist. Yup, one of those guys. He obviously was a nutbar, shame he wasn't judged to be sooner. Unfortunately, I think we will be seeing more and more of this, instead of less. Lots of anger in this country. Brings out teh crazy.

happy, I don't know that there is any more or less of this per se, but you can bet that the MSM will be playing it for every drop of blood they can get.
-
Sparky,
Not those guys! Why, newsies wouldn't have an agenda, would they? Oh yeah, I really think we will see much more of this, and the news will be playing it for all it's worth. Interpersed with the latest non-event of no consequence whatsoever to anyone in this country, some dumb story on the Palin family. Because we're all supposed to give a big hairy rat's ass what her kid is doing. I have my own kids, thank you, I'll just worry about them, MSM. Maybe if more people tried worrying about their own kids instead of someone else's, then the world might, just might, not be quite so f**ked up. As for this shooter dude, of course it now turns out he wrote a letter nearly a MONTH ago, planning on killing the people there in NY. And of course, he was nuttier than a shit house mouse, but we gotta worry that because there are crazy people out there, we shouldn't try to shoot them if they try to shoot us, we should just wait quietly and try not to bleed to death waiting on the cops to come. Makes sense to someone, I'm sure. Probably Kos, since he thinks its those damn right wingers making people kill. Hope he doesn't have to find out first hand what a dumba$$ he is. He might not like it so much, ya think?
