Ooooh boy.  Not what I expected.  I figured that he'd go to the Reds.

The Mets have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Gary Sheffield, studio analyst Harold Reynolds has told MLB.com and MLB Network.
Sheffield, who has hit 499 homers in his career, was released by the Tigers on Tuesday.

Earlier today, the New York Post reported that the Mets were negotiating to bring Sheffield to New York.

The Post quotes a source close to the on-going negotiations as saying, "Unless something drastic happens, he is a Met. Someone would have to offer him a second year, and I just don't see that happening."

Sheffield, who had also drawn interest from the Phillies and Reds, was presumed to prefer the Mets because they would give him more playing time as an alternative to Ryan Church in right field and Daniel Murphy in left.

I know Sheff's a cancer.  But, teams that he's on do tend to win.

Hopefully, he'll get his WS ring this year . . . and the Phillthies didn't get him!
