Arkansas Man Arrested After Drunken Joy Ride in School Bus
EL DORADO, Ark. — A man was arrested after allegedly stealing a school bus, driving it to a motel while drunk and leaving it in the middle of a driveway on Friday. A police report said a woman who saw the man stumble out the rear door of the bus called authorities after he asked her if she wanted to go for a ride. Police arrived and found the man walking away from the bus.
According to a police report, the man stumbled as he walked, and when he saw officers, he handed them the keys to the bus. Police said he was bleeding from a large cut above his right eye. They also said he smelled strongly of intoxicants and his eyes were bloodshot.
When asked by police how he had been cut, the man first said he was beaten up, but when pressed, he admitted he had fallen. He was treated at a hospital for the cut.
The man told police he found the bus near a bar. He said he'd been thrown out of the bar and climbed into the bus because "it was a warm, dry place."
The school district said the bus was parked behind the bar because the driver was out of town — the person caring for the bus must have left the keys in.
