The United States will push hard for Palestinian statehood despite a new rightist government in Israel but anticipates a rough road ahead, a U.S. official said on Thursday.

"We're going to be working hard to see what we can do to move the process forward. But we're under no illusions. It's not going to be easy," said State Department spokesman Robert Wood.

"We have to engage constantly and remind the parties of their obligations and to try to set up a framework, a process for getting us toward that goal of a two-state solution," Wood added, referring to the goal of separate Israeli and Palestinian states, living side by side in peace.

You really think so?  I don't, the American Jews seem past caring about Israel when it comes to voting for the Dems.

Fat chance.  They are 2-1 Democrats over US social issues, Israel does not trump that to enough of those that vote Dem to matter.

I thought Palestine was the name given to Israel by a conquering foreign power?

We already have a Palestine, it's just called by its Hebrew name.

I've always wondered about this two states thing. How exactly will that bring about peace?
The palestinians refuse to accept Israel's right to exist. Any state created will be a state in perpetual war.

I really think peace talks should be boycotted until the pals can behave like rational human beings.
100% of all concessions made were made by Israel. Isn't it about time that the world asked Hamas and Fatah to recognize Israel and stop the killings?

Frankly I hope Bibi kicks so much Palestinian whiney baby ass that the world will beg palestine not to piss off Israel anymore.
