A Virginia jail could be the next home for Guantanamo Bay inmates.
The maximum security jail in Alexandria, Va. -- home to approximately 460 inmates -- is under contract to take federal inmates who are tried at the courthouse just a few blocks away.
Among them could be former Al Qaeda operatives detained in Guantanamo Bay like Abu Zubaydah, Al Qaeda's operations chief, or Abd Al-Nashiri, the alleged planner of the U.S.S. Cole attack, Alexandria sheriff Dana Lawhorne told FOX News.
"We are a maximum security jail, so the answer is yes," Lawhorne said when asked about the possibility that Gitmo detainees could be transferred to the jail.
Lawhorne said that although most inmates are booked at city jail on local charges, Al Qaeda operative Zacarias Moussaoui was detained there in a separate unit on the third floor for five years.
Lawhorne said he and his team were given specific instructions for Moussaoui's imprisonment, which included no contact with television, radio, or other inmates.
"He had to be isolated. He could not be within earshot -- of television, radios, and other people. It takes a lot of space to accomplish that," Lawhorne said.
The jail, built in 1987, is surrounded by condominiums, government offices, and a luxury hotel just a few hundred feet from the courthouse door.
In a letter sent to Attorney General Eric Holder two weeks ago, Virginia Rep. Frank Wolf, a Republican, inquired about the housing and handling of detainees at Alexandria's jail because he said all signs indicate that Gitmo detainees will be transferred there. Holder's office has not yet responded, according to Wolf.

Hey...if the Democrats up on Capitol Hill think they (the terrorists) aren't so bad...they they should be as close to them as possible.
Maybe some of them could be housed in the Arlington Country and D.C. city detention facilities as well.

Obama just signed their death warrants. You guys do realize that Guantanamo will feel like a picnic compared to a Maximum security STATE prison. I'm just not sure who will have first bids on them, will it be the White Supremacists, the West Coast Mexicans, the Black Gangsta's....etc?

The is the country Detention Center. It's run by the Sheriff's office. This isn't some maximum security state lock up.

If these terrorists are imported here, they will be given "rights". As the "evidence" againast them is in AFGANISTAN, Pakistan , and/or Iraq, and is from "native" soldiers mostly, there woll be no "proof" of their perfidity. SO, the libidiots will see that they are freen, with chests puffed out while claiming the "moral high ground" . Not giving a good damn that they are sentencing actual Americans to death in the future, they will actually be proud, fools that they are.

Well, consider this, John.
I'm certainly not advocating it, and I certainly hope it doesn't happen, but WHEN (not if, WHEN) the next terrorist attack on our soil occurs and it's determined that the guilty party is: 1--Shriners, 2--pissed off grannies, 3--DU wasteoids, or 4--mostly Muslim men between the ages of 17-40 (gee, guess which one?), guess what's gonna happen?
Do you seriously think there isn't going to be some backlash and vigilantism going on? Hell, I'm actually shocked there wasn't a lot MORE of it after 9/11, frankly. But the backlash isn't going to be confined to the communities which harbor and support this kind of behavior. There's also going to be a backlash against a government which evicerated our ability to prevent such a thing. IOW, John, it's payback time inside the Beltway, and it ain't gonna be pretty if/when it happens.
