Government Should Compel Consumers to Use Alternative Energy, Congressman Says
(CNSNews.com) - Government policy should be crafted to raise the price of carbon-emitting energy sources so consumers are compelled to choose alternative energy, House Democratic Conference Chairman John Larson (D-Conn.) told CNSNews.com on Thursday.
Larson agreed that such a policy would likely result in higher electricity prices for consumers but said this is needed to protect the environment from the possible “catastrophic results†of not implementing a pro-green energy policy.
Some Republicans who spoke with CNSNews.com at the Capitol agreed that electricity prices would go up, and they dismissed President Barack Obama’s cap-and-trade plan as little more than a large tax on energy producers, the cost of which is passed onto consumers.
With cap and trade, the amount of carbon an energy company can emit is capped. If it exceeds that limit, the company can purchase credits (“tradeâ€) that would go towards investment in green or alternative energy firms.

What an a$$hat! If he really wants us to use "alternative energy" sources, make 'em cheaper instead of making everything else more expensive. :thatsright:

That's assbackwards to standard government policy.

Unfortunately that is the problem with "alternative energy", it is cost prohibitive, and non-competitive......therefore, the only way that liberals can advance its use is to either "force" folks to use it through regulation, or artificially increase the cost of carbon-based energy to the point where it does become competitive.......either way, the folks are screwed......

Yep. If they're so all-fired up about "alternative energy" they could subsidize them, but that would be spending and not taxing. They could fund it the same way they just funded the Porkulus TM package...just print more money.

I'll start buying into all of this green crap when I see the Presidential Motorcade consisting of nothing by Chevy Volts...there's a composting station set up at the White House and Wind Turbines on the grounds of Capitol Hill.

Well, they already have plenty of sh*t at the WH for the compost, and hot air at the Capitol for the turbines. I'd prefer to see Uncle Zer0 riding around in a Prius, and Bella Pelosi taking the bus to Californicate.

That would take effort and thought. Can't do.

Personally, I'll give a shit what these people think about global warming and carbon footprints when they travel to and from their districts by horse and buggy.

Alternate energy source = burn wood.....that ought to make them happy.
Saw a picture once of a taxi in Brazil during WW2 running on methane. The methane was produced by a contraption on the back of the taxi that looked like a liquor still. They built a fire in it with 'green' wood then smoothered it down until the taxi would ran on the smoke. The environmentalist/greenies/moonbats ought to love that........ :rotf:

Can't have that...horses are vegetarians, so pass the same "harmful" gases as cows. ::)

If you think about it, the idea of a Capitol Building is outdated. All of these mental midgets could be teleconferencing from their home offices. No jets needed. No limos limos needed. No staff needed. No Washington office needed.
The Capitol could be a museum, opened to the public from 10:00 AM-4:00 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays.
And while we're at it, the White House/president is unnecessary too. Our "president" can be a computer where polling data and congress data are feed and "decrees" are spit out. It could be housed in the same room as the Supreme Court Constitution Computer. All Presidential Computer "decrees" could instantly be ran through the Supreme Court Computer for a final "decision".
We could stop the spending of billions and billions of $.

Keep in mind the purpose is NOT to promote "green energy." The ONLY purpose of this legislation is to squelch capitalism and put the democrats / communists (no difference) in charge of your energy usage.
To be extremely blunt: We can produce 10 times the amount of energy we already produce by developing nuclear plants, with a virtual zero carbon footprint, and the entire amount of waste produced can fit in a 200 foot cube heavily shielded hole in the ground (in actuality, a comprehensive but easily doable nuclear waste management system), if concentrated in one area of the country. But that's being logical.
The democrats know damn well that windmills and other energy sources will result in far less efficient energy sources and ADD to their precious carbon footprint. But this will then allow them to come up with EVEN MORE regulations and restrictions. THIS IS KEY.
Democrats act for one reason only: to enhance their control over humanity. They DON'T give one frickin' flicker of care for any human, although they use them for sob stories. That is why they must be stopped politically.

The Spanish have already tried it and failed. And they failed miserably.
Subsidizing renewable energy in the U.S. may destroy two jobs for every one created if Spain’s experience with windmills and solar farms is any guide.
For every new position that depends on energy price supports, at least 2.2 jobs in other industries will disappear, according to a study from King Juan Carlos University in Madrid.
U.S. President Barack Obama’s 2010 budget proposal contains about $20 billion in tax incentives for clean-energy programs. In Spain, where wind turbines provided 11 percent of power demand last year, generators earn rates as much as 11 times more for renewable energy compared with burning fossil fuels.

You don't think that the libs will let a few facts get in their way do you?
