Title: Thank-You DU
Post by: SSG Snuggle Bunny on March 25, 2009, 06:37:05 PM
I got laid-off today. I survived 2 rounds of lay-offs but the 3rd one got me.

Oh, sure, I've been throught the emotional roller-coaster today but after coming home and looking at this forum all I can say is:

THANK-YOU

Thank-you for inspiring me to NOT become a self-pitying, egomaniacal, lazy shitbag like the rest of you simpering, overdue abortions.

Thank-you for making me want to stand up on my own feet and determine my fate rather than sit on my ass waiting for some drooling bureaucrat decide my future educational and occupational opportunities.

Thank-you for the chemtrail thread and other looney conspiracies that granted me the brief reprieve of mirth.

However, I must also attend this thread with what is due you:

Thanks to your insipid belief in global warming and that the NRA is more of a threat than unwashed sand-rats with 14th century educations the oil industry and the GWoT are being squeezed to death by your mindless bullshit thus putting me out of a job as an oilfield worker AND as a soldier who wants to defend his fellow Americans.

So...****-YOU...TWICE.

Thank-you, Schade darlin'

None of this "I'm sorry to hear that" stuff from my fellows.

If you want to dole out sympathy do it for the paste-eaters at DU who were born to be slaves for their betters but in a century were it's been outlawed.

I've got a Class A CDL with Hazardous Materials and tanker endorsement, confined space entry certs, IPEC, ISO and OSHA certs, rigger certs, and a stack of other certifications (all OJT derived via the dread evil Halliburton thankyouverymuch) AND and EMT cert from the army AND I was working on my crane operators cert and directional driller lessons.

I am strongly considering getting my class A CDL again.  Many trucking companies are still hiring.

I always enjoyed the driving side of my job--actually I liked my job very much--but the driving especially. I could go OTR without complaint. However, when preparations for the winter heating season kick-up again in September I will re-apply and was invited to do so; like I said: I enjoyed my job.

My lagomorph friend, as the others in this thread have already pointed out, you should be on the sidelines for about as much time as it should take for you to draw one breath.  Whenever God closes a door, He opens another.  Thing is, and the DUmb****s don't understand this, is that we have to go and find those doors ourselves.  You seem to be doing this part--seeking the door.  You'll soon find that God has done His part, and the door will be there.

You see, lurking libs, conservatives don't need charities they have something better and they're called: friends and neighbors. It's more community based than any hippy commune. Live and learn from your betters.

Hang in there Snuggle Bunny...we're just getting off the roller coaster though my husband's job hasn't started yet. Granted things have been tighter than a virgin trying to wrap herself around John Holmes but it's been kind of nice having him off the roller coaster for a while. One door closes, another one opens. DUmmies just fail to walk through...they insist on being carried. That's why they're losers. The movers and shakers don't have time to carry their fat asses across the threshold.

That's a nice truck and dozing could be kick-ass. I've always been amazed at how many co-workers treated being introduced to new equipment a/o learning the geometry of the job treated it as a burden. To me it was brain candy. Everyday was something new that expanded your technical expertise.

BTW - where in Texas? I'm returning to Ft Sam in the fairly near future, we may have to hoist a few some weekend.

I'm seriously debating just a tide-me-over job. Production will inevitably pick-up again as the year approaches autumn. Part of the problem--in addition to the idiot pols--is the fact that this winter was so mild home heating fuel sales nose dived. I want to go back for the training, the career roots, benes and retirement.

Moving on or biding time is my single biggest cunundrum at this point. How do I want to cash-in my opportunities?

Dozing IS kick ass....there is nuthin' like pushing up a few hundred yards of dirt before supper....or clearing a couple acres of worthless brush  to piss off the tree huggers.
I am in the DFW area and spend most of my time just south of Denton off I35...come on down...I got a spot on the lake and a fridge full of beer....

I have been weighing those same questions since I got laid off at the end of Jan.  In my case, I really didn't like my job for the last couple of years.  I liked the work, just not the corporate BS.  I will most likely not have a chance to go back to what I really liked; Telco circuit testing.

So for me, looking at a career change has a certain appeal.  Even if it is a bit scarey.

Well I've never made a secret of my age. I have 2 grown sons...my "baby" is 24. I'm pretty well preserved for my age (ah, heck, I look pretty good for a woman whose almost 50). Besides John Holmes is fairly well known even among people who don't watch porn. Had I said Evan Stone (VERY freaking hot) or Billy Glide (pretty damn big) I'm didn't know whether anyone would know who I was talking about. I mean, it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Well S Bunny, the shoe's fallen. Now is the time to find somewhere to go, geographically and employment wise. Don't forget that in addition to the area you are in, there's the Williston Basin, Marcellus Shale, North Slope just to mention a very few, where there is a very big potential.

http://geology.com/articles/marcellus-shale.shtml

I don't know who you were refering to about the carbon idiocy, but clearly the USA has nothing that can add to warming, cooling, or climate change in general. I suspect the "culprite" passes by our view every day, when it is light out.

Anyway, with your heavy equipment skills, you should be able to get a good job somewhere very soon, IF you'll go to the job, no matter where it is. From Brazil to Australia to Alaska to the sand pit to  China to....well....anywhere the economy is growing. And it is growing in some industries and they all require professional heavy equipment operators.

Just wondering, about how old are you and.....are you in a position where you can move where ever without causing a hardship to third persons?

The UAE/Dubai was hiring last I scanned their website. They ARE drilling AND building another palm tree shaped resort island...

MSB....I just saw this thread...I agree with whoever said "when God closes one door, another one opens"....and it's usually a better door!

For what it's worth....after Katrina a good friend of mine went to work for a company that subcontracts to FEMA for disaster cleanup. He was making in excess of $20K a month....working 12-15 hours a day. He's a degreed geologist, with a contrator's license and had gotten laid off from TVA. It's contract work.

Long story short...I tried to get on with the same company he works with for two years....finally gave up. He's in Galveston doing cleanup from the hurricane and has been there since before Christmas. He called me today, he's going to be in Galveston until at least August. He also wanted to tell me that FEMA itself has just started hiring again due to several disasters, including the flooding in ND and MN that is expected to be unprecedented.

If interested go to FEMA.gov, and click on employment. There are 6 regions...you do not have to live in the region to agree to work in it. There are benefits.

There are many different jobs available. He does hazardous waste disposal(which is what he's doing in Galveston) or in the case of severe flooding - it's something to do with the stability of the ground. He was in upstate NY summer before last after they had had a lot of spring flooding...it was an 8 month job. He also spent about 6 months in CA after Katrina because of severe mudslides. I was going to do dwelling inspections....to determine whether the property was salvagable, determine what needed to be done to make it habitable again or whether it needed to be destroyed.

The company he works for requires you to be on call and able to leave within 48 hours. A commitment of at least 120 days, you only get to go home once a month for 3 days. No benefits.

Another important factor....he's either 62 or 63.

I would do it....but my business is finally back up to where I was a couple of years ago, and I've made a major commitment to a client and I can't walk away from them.

If you want more info, you can pm me.

SUCK IT DUmmies!

Just picked-up a full-time job with the Colorado Guard. I work with the project managers that oversee new construction and maintence for all military installations in Colorado. Salaray just under $42k, healthcare, working only 4 10-hour days a week with 3 hrs to be spent at the gym for manadatory PT.

I got the job because my unit where I drill sees that I'm the go-to bunny whenever extra missions come-up, I volunteer for additional classes and training and I step-up to do extra work, i.e. develop an inventory system on Excel for my section. It was an open position but they all but picked me up and carried me into the captain's office and told him to hire me. They pushed hard for me to get this job.

Good going.

I'm in the process of having to seek new streams of income in the financial services sector since the mortgage business is rather flat right now, a direction that had someone asked me this time last year if I would need to do, I'd have laughed at them.  But never say never, anything can happen to alter one's plans.  But like you, I'm just keeping my nose to the grindstone and making things happen around me.  I wouldn't know any other way if I tried.

I cannot imagine what a miserable state a man must find himself in to sit on his ass waiting for someone else to hand him his fortunes. They are not worthy of whatever freedoms others have also supplied and preserved for them. Yet, we read so many times about DU'ers that have been unemployed for years.

I say we repeal the 13th Amendment: they get their food, clothes, housing and healthcare and we actually get SOME use out of the pathetic sods.

Well, Mr. S. Bunny, glad to read you have made another substantial step forward. Wish you the best...exploring the C. Rockies off the Phantom Canyon Road (leads to Cripple Creek) , and just general exploration of those hills made me happy. Found, on the Ft. Carson range, a fossil oyster that was 14-16 inches long in the limestone there.

Carried a 1911A1 , loaded, in the hills, as Griz, black bear and desperate men were to be dfound there on rare occasion. Now, you can add big cats and even more desperate men, so rather than loose cartriges, I'd carry a few mags. to go with, but I'd sure as hell be looking around....there's GOLD IN THEM THAR HILLS, YOU KNOW!nEVER FOUND ANY, BUT IT WAS FUN.

Don't enter any old mines that don't have live critters going in AND OUT, methane will kill you so fast you don't even know your dying.

Oh, see if the "Lost Spur" Bar is still there, just a short jump out the range's back gate just off rt 115. Back in the day it was....interesting.......there were some ladies who spent time there......

I just caught this thread, but I was going to say when a door closes, God opens a window.  I see he has done that for you....God only helps those who help themselves and you are proof of that!

Good luck on your new job!
