There is a wonderful movement going on right now where Christians are dedicating themselves to fasting and prayer to prevent socialism in our country. Not a starvation fast, but just something to sacrifice for 6 months to a year, like coffee, a certain TV show, carbonated drinks, or something like that. Every time we have the desire to do what we are fasting, it will be a reminder to say a prayer to God about protecting our country from socialism.
Many of us are deeply afraid of what's ahead in the next couple of years and if nothing is done in the next year it might be too late. Prayer and fasting is the most powerful thing we can do, and God doesn't need a majority. Gideon, David, Joshua, etc. defeated huge armies with only small ones. We can do the same!
Faith the size of a mustard seed can move mighty mountains! I've heard about what's going on in Africa right now and God is doing incredible things. Just a couple of examples - A Muslim's deformed leg was visibly restored and reattached in front of a Nazarene church, and a corpse was raised from the dead in a Muslim funeral near Sierra Leone - both events led to mass conversions of Muslims to Jesus Christ. Prayer is powerful, and God is powerful. If He can raise the dead, and do all the other countless miracles He is doing all over Africa, He can handle this!

But you, when you fast,anoint your head and wash your face so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
Fasting and self denial are great things in the spiritual journey. Making them a political movement? Not my bag.

The point isn't to fast so people know about it. The point is to join together in prayer in fasting because prayer works! Our country is in serious trouble! The most important thing we can do is pray.
It's sad that some people think the only point of fasting is the effect it has on others. The point of prayer and fasting is God! If you doubt the power of prayer, just read the blog on the fastingforfreedom.com site.
