Visa gift card, what a ****ing rip off
So I got a $50 Visa gift card. Yay! right? Once you use it, no so much with the yay. I spent 20 on groceries and went to use the remainder to fill my gas tank only to discover "purchase cannot exceed value of card" You CAN'T spend more than the money on the card and pay for the rest with other funds. If you try that it will decline your purchase (and make you look like a tool). Guess who looked like a tool at the gas station? Yeah so it's pretty impossible to spend EXACTLY $50 so odds are you'll use most of it and then there will be a couple bucks left that you'll have to just leave there. Oh, and the other thing? Once you use the card you have to pay nearly $4 a month in fees for "card maintenance" (who knew little plastic cards needed maintaining?).
Of course nobody wants to look a gift horse in the mouth but I wonder if the giver knew that the $50 they spent on the card would really only result in about $40-45 being actually spent if they'd feel they got a good deal. I HATE credit card companies and all the little and big ways they like to say "**** you" to the customer.
I'm sure you need no help with that.

Wow. Their rage and angst gets ever more wide ranging. It must suck to have to go so far out of your way to be pissed off about something.
Somebody should do one of those daily tear-off calendars featuring "Crap that pisses off the DUmmies."

Guess it never occurred to the dummie to just buy what's left on the card finish the transaction and start another? Talk about the epitomy of laziness! :whatever:

Guess who not only looks like a tool but IS a tool?

5. that does suck
Gift cards are kind of dumb anyway... "Here, I was too lazy to go to this store and select an appropriate gift, but I am pushy enough to tell YOU where to shop."
Didn't Seinfeld have a bit on that? "It's not a gift, it's an errand."
"If only I could stop using self-deprecating humor, I know that I could be a much better person."
What an ungrateful dick! :whatever: I love getting gift cards!

Damn, teh stoopid burns.................................. :loser:

While some may view it as a cop-out, and I would not get this outside being a "stocking stuffer" for immediate family, it IS a thoughtful gift for someone one doesn't know well, such as a co-worker, etc.
Too bad the DUmmies don't look at gifts as just that--GIFTS. Even when they're given shit, they still find a reason to bitch. Ingrates.

Gotta call bullshit on this one. How did the gas pump know how much money it was going to spend?
What probably happened is the computer put a hold on $75 to make sure the card had enough balance and when it came back as insufficient it wouldn't turn on. It probably could have taken the card inside and explained to the cashier that it wanted to get more than $30 gas and the cashier could have turned the pump on to $30 and taken the rest in cash.

Most credit card machines at gas pumps look for a minimum balance and if you dont have that amount you have to go inside and prepay with what you have on the card. So I think you are right.

Typical DUmmie. Receives a gift of "free" money and the gripes about it.
I've gotten many gift cards and have never had trouble spending every cent of them....and DUmmies want to lecture about economics? :whatever:

Most rebates are done this way now. I just bought 2 new cell phones in December and the $50 rebates came in the form of Visa cards. No problem spending every single dime and there weren't any 'maintenance' fees.
This DUmmie is just trying to stir the pot and gain street cred by jumping on the anti CC band wagon.

Hmmmm, what are the odds that this DUmmie has been turned down for loans, credit cards and even a simple checking account. Yes, DUmmies a cr*ppy credit rating will do that to you. Us eeeevil, corporate loving, rethugs set it up that way just to keep you down.

Thats exactly correct. the DUmpmonkey should have called the 800 number to do a balance inquiry, then used the card to prepay that amount on the gas pump. Instead, I suspect he swiped the card at the pump, which does automatically hold so many dollars since the amount to be purchased isn't determined yet.
But that would have required making that phone call then walking up to the cashier to prepay. Much too much effort....

The DUmmy probably overcharged the gas pump purposefully, tried to abscond without paying for the overfill and got a nice big ticket for the crime.

Gift cards to not have a freakin maintenance fee.

The ones from Amex do, or at least they used to.

On a gift card? I've never even seen an AMEX gift card.

Yup. Got one from the MIL a few years ago for Christmas. It dropped a few bucks off the balance available each month. I didn't wait for that to happen. :uhsure:

Well I'll be. First I've heard of it. Thanks for correcting me.

I've received two Visa gift cards and they both say in the Cardholder Agreement that they cannot be used at gas stations. ::)

how would we narrow the outrages down to 365 ? The old ones just has "Bush's fault" on every page

I wouldn't bet against this being the case.

Some VISA and MasterCard do, but the only ones like that I've seen come from payday/car title loan offices. Store gift cards do not, aka Walmart....

The new ones could put 10 outrages/day and you would still have plenty left over for the next decade....
Pretty much anything/everything pisses them off, real or otherwise....
-
What?! He couldn't spend more money than the card was worth? That's... That's...
Totally understandable, and how the real world works.
-
I save up used visa gift cards with small balances and then use them all at the gas station. If one care has 1.50 on it and another as 6.32 on it then I pump twice. First time for 1.50 worth of gas and the second time for 6.32. Cards get used completely and I get gas. The gas station is the best place to finish of a card.
-
Wounder how the DUmmy would feel if he knew that gas stations put a 75.00 hold on debit cards when you get gas.

B of A only ensures there is a $1 balance. I know, I got my wallet stolen and they pumped $175 in gas...

As previously mentioned, AMEX gift cards do carry a monthly maintenance fee. Many other gift cards have a monthly maintenance fee as well, but these often do not come into effect until a pre-defined period of account inactivity.
Modern-day gift cards aren't like the gift certificates of years past. They're essentially debit cards - usually you can add balance to them. Account maintenance fees are just that - since, unlike a gift certificate, it does not have a plainly stated face value but an electronically stored value linked to an account number stored in some database somewhere, there are overhead expenses. Maintenance fees recoup those expenses.
Unintended consequence of the success of consumer advocacy groups who lobbied to make gift certificate expiration dates illegal.

They believe that their ideals can rewrite the laws of reality, overturn common sense and outlaw cause and effect.
OK, their stoopid.

Yup, that is exactly how it works. The DUmmie is just, well a DUmmie..... :lmao:

The problem is--they have someone in the White House who thinks that way, too, but he's learning just how things really work. The DUmb****s don't have a prayer of finding this out.
