Oops: Colbert wins space station name contest (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29841715)
'Colbert' beat out four other NASA-suggested options for new module
WASHINGTON - NASA's online contest to name a new room at the international space station went awry. Comedian Stephen Colbert won.
The name "Colbert" beat out NASA's four suggested options in the space agency's effort to have the public help name the addition. The new room will be launched later this year.
NASA's mistake was allowing write-ins. Colbert urged viewers of his Comedy Central show, "The Colbert Report" to write in his name. And they complied, with 230,539 votes. That clobbered Serenity, one of the NASA choices, by more than 40,000 votes. Nearly 1.2 million votes were cast by the time the contest ended Friday.
NASA reserves the right to choose an appropriate name. Agency spokesman John Yembrick said NASA will decide in April, but will give top vote-getters "the most consideration."
Funny.

I'm betting they go with "Serenity"
/Firefly FTW!

His DNA is already up there, it's only fitting they go with Colbert at this point.
Stephen Colbert’s DNA to be shot into space (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26599373/)
Comic’s genetic material will be part of video-game designer’s time capsule
NEW YORK - Should this world ever cease to exist, Stephen Colbert will live on.
The comedian's DNA will be digitized and sent to the International Space Station, Comedy Central was to announce Monday. In October, video game designer Richard Garriott will travel to the station and deposit Colbert's genes for an "Immortality Drive."
"I am thrilled to have my DNA shot into space, as this brings me one step closer to my lifelong dream of being the baby at the end of 2001," Colbert said in a statement, referring to the 1968 landmark science fiction film "2001: A Space Odyssey."

The host of "The Colbert Report" will essentially be preserved so that aliens can clone him.
"In the unlikely event that Earth and humanity are destroyed, mankind can be resurrected with Stephen Colbert's DNA," Garriott said in a statement. "Is there a better person for us to turn to for this high-level responsibility?"

Stephen Colbert guns for space station title (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29551580/)
Comedian urged fans to vote to name new space station module after him
-snip-
Colbert urged fans to put his name in the running on Tuesday's episode of his fake-conservative show "The Colbert Report" on Comedy Central, after dismissing the four NASA-chosen names — Earthrise, Legacy, Serenity and Venture.
"Those aren't space modules, those are organic teas," Colbert said. "But you know what name would look fantastic on the side of that module? Colbert!"
-snip-
"Folks, I'm telling you, if we keep this up until the contest ends on March 20, my name will live forever — or at least until that node burns up in a fiery reentry," Colbert said on Wednesday's show. "Which is how I'd like to go out myself."
-snip-
The NASA-chosen name Serenity, which shares the name of a spaceship in the cult favorite television series "Firefly", continues to maintain a huge lead with more than 66,000 votes, according to NASA. But a surge of votes has given Colbert 29,000 in just two days, enough for second overall. The trailing vote-getters include Xenu (9,200), Earthrise (4,200), Legacy (3,500) and Venture (3,200).
-snip-
The international space station previously made an appearance on "The Colbert Report" when Colbert received an orbital call from astronaut Garrett Reisman. The comedian bolstered his claim to Node 3 by saying that the space station owed him for the publicity.
"I already gave it the Colbert bump when I talked to astronaut Garrett Reisman when he was posted up there," Colbert noted on Tuesday. "Oh and surprise, it's now the number one space station in orbit."

:lmao:

Why not? Colbert has been shooting his DNA into any sock he can find since puberty.

Firefly sucked
Them's fightin words boy. Pistols or Knives?
-
Frankly, the movie WASN'T nearly as good as the series. I was very disappointed Fox only gave it 13 episodes. They were just starting to really develop the character lines.
-
teh whole thing is teh ghey.

Regardless of whether Firefly sucked or not ,which it didn't, Serenity and Colbert are really stupid names.
I would recommend Schadenfreude as a good name and maybe if one of us here knew about this we could have written that in.
But it would have been best if Nasa had gone with a corporate sponsor such as Tostidos or Johnson and Johnson, in fact, why isn't this thing built yet? Lets get a whole bunch of corporate sponsors and get it done in the next six months.

Colbert can be funny
When? I've never once laughed at him. Do you have to be stoned to find him funny?
-
I though Firefly was a great show. I think they did a great job of blending genres for it. Of course, I also like Dr Who and Farscape.
Serenity is actually a nice name for this module since it's just an observation port for an existing module. it fits.

I loved Firefly! I was just really sorry that I didn't watch the series when it was actually on TV.

If you saw it on DVD it might have made more sense because Fox messed with the order and showed the pilot near the end of the run. Or maybe not, I haven't seen the series on DVD.
-
Yeah they were mostly in order on the DVDs. Or maybe it was that I looked up the order they were supposed to be in and that was how I decided which one to watch. Either way, it worked.

I watched Colbert doing an interview one time, just about a week ago.
He was interviewing a liberal moonbat who wrote a book about how cool it would be to redistribute wealth.
I swear, Colbert barely stopped to take a breath. The moonbat barely had a second to get a word in edgewise. Colbert made O'Reilly look like Mother Theresa.
