Fine.  I'll go to HR after my vacation next week and tell them to stop taking out my payroll taxes.  Ditto my SS taxes--they'll like that part, not having to do that pesky match anymore.

Yeah, you volunteer to pay what the government demands, and the government volunteers not to take what little is left.   :whatever:

Yes, Harry Reid is a moron.

Will Reid service our jail time once we are convicted for not paying our voluntary taxes?

If enough of us didn't pay, it might fun watching the IRS try to collect it when we use the defense of Reid said it was voluntary.

I'm looking at the Browns (Ed and Elaine) and wondering if maybe they weren't such lunatics after all.

Well, the Feds won in the end.  I do think I recall it took many months at a great cost but they did finally arrest them.

Still, I really do believe the way to get Congress to pay attention is quit paying taxes.

Problem is, how do you just stop paying your taxes?  It's not as if your employer is just gonna say, "Hey, great idea!"

I guess you might be right.  It used to be you could just increase your dependants but if I recall you *now* have to pay estimated tax on a quarterly basis.  Is this right?

You can't stop SS, medicare etc. withholding, but there is an entry on the W4 form to not withhold federal income taxes.  Just write in "exempt" on line 7 of the form.

After the November election, I was thinking of adding all those Obots that'll be suckling off my damned wallet as dependents - ACORN registration style - but the damned IRS forms just don't give you enough spaces.

But, I cannot meet these conditions:

-- Last year I had a right to a refund of all federal income tax withheld bec ause I had no tax liability and
-- This year I expect a refund of all federal income tax withheld because I expect to have no tax liability.

If you meet both conditions, write “Exempt” here

It would be fun to add "Yes We Can" to each line though.   :rotf:

actually, as I understand it, its against the law to not FILE your taxes, not so on paying.  that being said, paying IS a debt that you can be pursued legally to pay not unlike any other debt but with the addition of extraordinary additional means of collection not afforded any other debtor.

I never said you had to be honest about it.  I merely stated that the W4 form allowed for it.

There is no LEGAL way in this country to stop paying federal income taxes despite what that asshole Reid says about it being voluntary.

Those that have tried, have failed.  Many end up in jail.

Bingo. Those trying to make political statements about taxes more often than not do so from behind bars, or continue writing checks payable to the IRS way beyond the tax burden would have been.
