1. On the verge of going bad?

I'd toss it in the garbage.

3. it was fine

I have a VERY sensitive nose. The color was not fresh - package had been opened a while but no off odors at all - believe me, I can tell. I'm dreading checking the pot of beans that have been in the porch fridge - it does tend to freeze things but they are probably bad. I hate wasting food, but the house is empty the past few weeks and I'm used to cooking for 5 (three teen appetites in that total!) There is so much FOOD! and so few dirty dishes!

6. verge - probably would have been off if I waited until tomorrow

I saw the color this morning and thought it was too late and I was too busy to cook it this morning so when I sniffed a while ago I was pleasantly surprised. Ahhh preservatives.

As usual, the warped primitive has the best insight into the matter:

7. Bacon is raised to a sufficient temperature in crisp cooking to kill anything but prions.

It might not taste as good but it won't be harmful.

franksolich has always thought the best bacon is bacon that's almost, but not quite, burnt.

Safe, too, and little or no grease.

5. Put them in the fridge and use for ANY of the uses in your poll.....

....but don't limit yourself.....you can crumble the bacon on "loaded baked potatoes', for instance.

Use them up in whatever way you can on the first occasion that you can.

Bacon....MMMMMMMMmmmmm
