What do you think of the term "feminized men"?

Often this comes up when talking about men who have become either (1) so 'politically correct' that they eschew the masculine or (2) the metrosexual.

For me, both of these instances are canards. Most 'metrosexuals' I knew are just playing the same game I did in college: straddle the line and some women will be attracted to that. It kinda works.

As for the PC bit, I have not known anyone to eschew the masculine. I have known folks to decry sexism at the drop of the hat, and I have noticed the faux outrage comes more from men than women.

But When I see these terms, a light goes off in my head and I suddenly think "This guy really doesn't like women" or something along those lines. Sometimes even my favorite comedian (Bill Maher) uses this term.

Well...

While that term is applicable to a disturbing number of males these days - many of them DU'ers-  It's just doesn't have quite enough zest to it for my usual dialogues.

2. You know what? We are all human with human traits. Sexist societies

assign certain attributes as either feminine or masculine
, like crying. Hell, everybody cries and it doesn't make a woman more feminine or a man less masculine if they cry. Also, wearing makeup, fashionable clothes and jewelry is looked down upon for men, yet throughout history men did wear fancy clothes, jewelry and makeup. Many men wear dresses, euphemistically called robes, and skirts, which we call kilts, in some societies even today.

Who ever knew that men and women were different ?!

I don't know men who are coach potatoes that eat pizza, drink beer and watch sports all day.

The navy veterans I hang out with say "I love you" to each other and hug each other when they great one another. They're not all wound up about the false aspects our society associates with 'masculinity'.

19. That is all true enough, but generally when someone talks about

the feminization of men, they are ignorant assholes either bashing gays or feminists.

3. Not fair to associate 'weak' with things relating to women.

If you want to insult a man you call him a 'girly man', a '*****', a 'bitch', a 'douchebag' - all things relating to women.

If you want to 'compliment' a woman, you say she's got 'balls'.

It's all terrible.

Lots of angst and hand wringing in this thread.  :-)

... so I decided to become a woman. True story. :D

Seriously TMI.

Unbelievable.

I'll tell you what I think of the term. I think it's a pretty darn accurate description of every gay man I've ever known, and I've known a few. I've not yet met a gay man who was not overly in touch with their feminine side. Enough to make a man lovin' woman like myself cringe. I do not judge them as individuals (just feel very sorry for their souls) and have no qualms about being friends, but it just ain't right.

1-I cried when my mother and father died.
2-I get a tear in my eye when they raise the flag.
3-I get a tear in my eye when I hear the Marine Corps hymn.
4-I used to cry like a baby when I wrote checks to the IRS.
5-....and I get a little misty eyed with pride when my son gets recognized for some of his achievements.
6-....uh....think that's about it.....do I need to buy a dress?

What do you think of the term "feminized men"?

It describes males who want Daddy and/or Mommy to be the safety net and take care of them for the rest of their lives, and when they finally either get booted or shamed to move out of the house, they turn to gov't as the new parent, the new saftety net.  I just decribed libs in general.

Yeah...  some of my best friends are sailors.  I've never hugged one of them, and never seen them hug another man, unless it was jokingly.  And I'll be damned before I tell any of them I love them, and vice a versa.  Hell, I have never even said that to the guy who was my best man, and basically best friend for life.

You mean you aren't attracted to a man in a dress with makeup up on?  Well, what kind of freak are you  :p </sarcasm>

I will admit that a good looking guy with nice legs will look very attractive in a kilt, but culturally that is still a man's outfit.  Women never wore kilts, they wore earasaids, which might have used a tartan plaid like a kilt, but was a very different style. More of an under dress, with an overskirt, and long enough to reach the ankles.

I don't.....as a matter of fact, I wear long pants year round. There's only one man in the county with uglier legs than me. I hope he lives to be a 100.

A friend of mine use to implore us to "run like ya gotta pair"  before we went on individual runs on her day to lead shift PT.  In all that time, the only person got offended and that was the new section chief.  She responded, "I meant legs dammit!"

I think the term beta-male pansies is more apropos.

I got this from one of my alpha-sport-playin- hard-drinkin/fightin/shootin man friends:

Gay or just a liberal *****?

Quote
1. If you are over forty, and you have a washboard stomach, you are gay. It means you haven't sucked back enough beer with the boys and have spent the rest of your free time doing sit-ups, aerobics, and doing the Oprah diet.

2. If you have a cat, you are a Flaaaaming homo. A cat is like a dog, but gay -- it grooms itself constantly but never scratches itself, has a delicate touch except when it uses its nails, and whines to be fed. Also, cats like their owners are drama queens. And just think about how you call a dog... 'Killer, come here! I said get your ass over here, Killer!' Now think about how you call a cat...'Bun-bun, come to daddy, snookums!' You're fit to be framed, you're so gay.

3. If you suck on lollipops, Ring-Pops, baby pacifiers, or any such nonsense, rest assured, you are a Gaylord. A straight man only sucks on BBQ ribs, crab claws, raw oysters, crawfish guts, tequila bottles, or tits. Anything else and you are in training and undeniably a fag.

4. If you refuse to take a dump in a public bathroom or piss in a parking lot, you crave a deep homosexual relationship. A man's world is his bathroom; he defecates and urinates wherever and whenever he pleases.

5. If you drink anything other than regular coffee. A straight man will never be heard ordering a 'Decaf Soy Latte'. If you've put a Decaf Soy Latte to your lips, you've had a man there too.

6. If you know more than six names of non-standard colors or four different types of dessert other than ice cream and pie, you might as well be handing out free ass passes. A real man doesn't have memory space in his brain to remember all of that crap.

7. If you can pick out chartreuse or you know what a 'fressier' is you're gay. And if you can name ANY type of textile other than cotton or denim, you are faggadocious.

8. If you drive with both hands on the wheel, forget it, you're dying to tune a meat whistle. A man only puts both hands on the wheel to honk at a slow-ass driver or to cut the jerk off. The rest of the time he needs that hand to change the radio station, eat a hamburger, or hold his beer.

9. You have an irrational fear of Crocs even though deep down in your heteroness you know they are super comfortable.

10. If there are empty urinals in the men’s room and you saddle up to one next to another guy, you are a toe taper and most likely a catcher. And probably caught something from that glory hole in San Francisco that will kill you.

11. If you are at a steak house and order just a salad then you like to toss salad.  If you ever go to prison you will be big Leroy’s bitch..and….salad tosser.

12. If you fuss over the party decorations and not where, when, and how you will get the keg and if there are enough plastic cups, you and your boyfriend are not just experimenting anymore.

13. If you know the proper accent in a foreign language, you don’t make sounds when you fart.  Every hetro man can’t get a oomlot or accent right if he cared to.

14. If you use body wash, makeup, or hair gel you are walking bun dart board.

Hope that does not kick too much sand in the liberal panzey's vagina.

Oh, and BTW, I'm 3/4s the man my father was.

I don't know about this one. There are plenty of military men and women at the Defense Language Institute learning to speak a foreign language with a proper accent. "I'm going to blow your ****ing head off, you filthy towelhead!" would have more impact in their own language I would think.
