Title: Obama Will Not Attend Annual Gridiron Dinner, 1st Pres. Since Cleveland to miss
Post by: bijou on March 12, 2009, 12:27:50 PM
Quote
A Gridiron Club member tells FBDC first that President Obama will not attend this year's dinner next Saturday, March 21st. He will be the first president since Grover Cleveland not to attend the first Gridiron Club Dinner of his presidency.

This year's date coincides with the spring break of President Obama's daughters' school and club members have been informed the Obama family will be out of town, likely in Chicago.
... The Gridiron Club was founded in 1885 and this year will be the 124th dinner. Membership is by invitation only and its 65 members include the most prestigious journalists in Washington.

Poor man must be exhausted and he has over a week to go until his next vacation.

Not sure I disagree with The Exalted One on this one.

I think a pretty damned good reason not to attend a dinner function is because you're out of town and are with your family elsewhere.

Football isn't the be-all, end-all for everybody.

What happens if Obama doesn't attend? The event collapses? Hardly - they'll find some other schmuck to talk.

Nothing to do with football

You are correct - my bad. It's a hodgepodge of hoity-toity "journalists".  :whatever:

The point still stands - family's more important than the dinner/event du jour.

So Bush took too many vacations but Obama apparently is allowed to ignore calls from the British and skip time-honored traditions.  :banghead:

0Bama is a president of many firsts, unfortunately most of them are of a negative kind.   He knows the media is still on their knees for him, so he can afford to blow this off.  By this time next year, it may be a slightly different story.

He needs to be careful not to overestimate his honeymoon. The press can turn quickly.

Yep, nothing pisses them off more than being ignored and left feeling irrelevant.
