If There Were A "Happy Pill", Would You Take It?
I mean like Huxley's "Soma", one that truly made everything "okay" and you felt happy.
Would you take it?

4. My dear Southpawkicker...
I probably wouldn't, sweetie...
Given my current circumstances, anyhow...
If I'd been very depressed, then it's more likely that I would have...
You know, if I'd seen a psychiatrist, and s/he had recommended that I take it...
Then I would have...
Otherwise, no...
I'd rather try to find out what was causing the unhappiness, and take care of it that way...
But that's just me...

10. I take the Zoloft, but it does not seem to pack the punch it used to.
Probably time to shake up the meds...

16. 200 mg per day is hardly too small a dose.
I think I may need to wean off and make a switch.

21. I have been able to take other
meds:
Prozac
Paxil
Effexor
Lexapro
all without the mania that Zoloft incited. No idea why, but don't want to experience that again.
Couldn't sit still, couldn't stop talking, lost impulse control, trouble sleeping, and nervous, nervous, nervous.

27. You know, I've been wondering that also.
I've read that some people who are also taking Prozac felt really good the first week they were on it but then its effects wore off. I've read that it takes a few weeks for it to work, but to me, it seemed to work almost instantly.
I have no idea if it was a placebo effect or what.
It'd be interesting to find out.

12. No, I am very lucky that I don't need it. I do wish I could give
them to my girlfriend though. She has been on all of those drugs (paxil etc) and still struggles from time to time.

43. It exists, I've been offered access to it, and I have declined.
Be it pain or pleasure, "real" trumps "imaginary" in my philosophy.
Always.

47. In a freaking New York minute
I can't get drunk enough and it takes too long for the misery to go away. And you feel like shit the next day.
You bet I'd take a "Happy" pill.

Okay people, fire away.
-
No wonder they want socialized medicine! They all have mini-pharmacies in their homes!!! Sheesh!
-
Well, assuming it was legal, sure, why not try it? Making it a part of my daily diet would be a completely different story, of course.
-
Those sillyass freaks need to step away from the keyboard and visit a park or something. Geez. :whatever:
Drugs I'm on:
Occasional Goody Powders.
Beer
Diet Coke

No wonder they want socialized medicine! They all have mini-pharmacies in their homes!!! Sheesh!
Maybe they'd settle for a prescription drug plan instead of the whole tomato.
Cindie

Never taken a happy pill. I'm just ahppy productive person. Accomplishment make me happy and satisfied.

I firmly believe that many want unlimited free access to "health" care so that eventually a doctor will declare them unable to be in the workforce.
Disability due to mental defect or some such.

Just shows their true parasitic nature. They wear it with such honor too. I'd sooner die than be on the govt dole or declared "disabled" in any way, shape or form. I would not accept it without a fight.

One of the great secrets to life I have learned recently, and it sounds really stupid but it is true and works is that if I want to be happy, I just have to choose to be happy.
While it is true that there is always stuff to not like and worry about, the opposite is also true.

These people want to run this nation too. :thatsright:

If taking it made the DUmp burn to the ground, then yes, I'd eat the entire freaking bottle.
-
My God! It's a drugstore over there!
-

Lord have mercy, isn't that the truth.
You know, working out has a lot of the same benefits as a 'happy pill' assuming there are not serious mental health issues. When I make sure to do it regularly, I feel good even with moods, during pms--the worst time for me. It's not a cureall, but I wonder how many of those on DU sit on their ample hineys everyday and don't get more movement then to the bathroom, kitchen, and desk? And how many are isolated by their views they can't help but share? That crap will depress anyone.

Do we really want to know the answer to that question? ::)

I've often said that the DUmmies aren't happy unless they're not happy . . . and sharing their unhappiness with everyone they meet.

This is true, ems...they do take great delight in being sullen.
