Title: I have to express my gratitude
Post by: franksolich on March 06, 2009, 12:55:09 PM
A few weeks ago, I notified the authorities here that I would be around less, given that it's income-tax season.  I make about 75% of the money I make all year long, from January through April each year, and so I get really piled on that time.

I also mentioned that I would be hauling out the boat and rowing over to Skins's island to observe the primitives less, but there was an additional reason for that.

In real life, I'm dealing with all sorts of people, some of them in financial messes, and when going over to Skins's island, I get in a real funk, when watching the primitives gripe about their petty trivial small "problems" as compared with how people with real problems are dealing with those problems in real life.

The primitives whine and complain; these people in real life brim with hope and optimism even though mired in a morass; they don't expect 0bama to do a damned thing for them, or they expect that he's going to do considerable damage to them.

But they look at their situations and fates as things they're confident (and probably reasonably so) they themselves are going to improve.

Seeing this in real life, and when comparing it with the squalid sordid childish temper-tantrums the primitives pull, well, the primitives aren't so funny any more.

Anyway; I'm sure that after income taxes are done, the primitives will amuse again.

I had been concerned that my brief stops into the DUmpster would erode the forum at least somewhat; after all, yes, sure, we have LC EFA here, a most remarkable and extraordinary moderator, but it's too much for just one moderator.

I w-a-a-a-a-y overestimated my value to the DUmpster.

While I've been here less and less, the numbers have gotten more and more.

Talk about a humbling experience, and one that I needed.

There is so much color, so much wit, so much brilliance, so much insight, among the other moderators (currently LC EFA, formerly Demonic Underwear [Lord Undies], DixieBelle, and Chris) AND the members, that I am awestruck.

Damn, you're all good.

And for that, I need to thank everybody involved.

You couldn't possibly overestimate your value, frank. Some of us are here because of you.

Once again, neighbor, spot-on.  H5.

Coach, you mean far more to this board--and to us--than you will ever know while you're here on Earth.

It's funny that you should think yourself so, well, trivial (for lack of a better word), here.  One of the bass singers in the choir I'm a tenor in, has a job that gives him a lot of contact with people in their homes.  (He repairs appliances, from what I can gather.)  He's had a rough last year or so--his wife has been undergoing some pretty intense chemotherapy for a pretty serious cancer, of which organ group I don't know (and I don't ask).  But, in his various assignments fixing whatever appliances that he does, he keeps meeting people who are in far worse medical straits than his wife (who is recovering nicely, from what he says).  So, he takes their names to us, but he is timid about asking us to pray for them.  On Ash Wednesday, before the distribution of ashes that evening, I sat with him and told him, "Don't ever think that we don't want to pray for people!  God is working through you.  You need to open yourself up to that."

He is less timid in his prayer requests.  And, I was sure to acknowledge the fact that The Holy Spirit was speaking to Bob (his name), and I was the instrument.

Coach, once again, you are far more important to this board--and to all of us--than you realize.

Don't worry; once baseball gets underway, muddyemms here is going to be on my back all the time.  He's not a Kansas City Royals fan.

that is more than likely untrue.  I have been running spiders on the site (I posted something about that in the modshop) for google for the past few weeks, trying to improve our search engine position.  if you are looking at page impressions, at least part of that is my spiders.

you are a vital cog in the CC engine, my friend.  never doubt that.

Have you considered looking at it from the angle that it took a collective effort from the rest of the group to fill the void left by your diminished role due to your RL responsibilities?

That's how I see it.

Coach,
I am here because of your kind invite once our old home went down the dumper.  I look forward to your wisdom, wit and insight on a daily basis!  You are a diamond in a vast world of coal.  My life has been filled with turmoil the past year but I value all my friendships whether online or RL.  Take care friend!

Frank.Solich.rocks.

I haven't been here all that long but it's Frank's sense of humor and ability to convey the idiocy that is the DUmp that makes coming here so much fun.

And that's not sucking up, either.

Frank, you are probably the most intellectually interesting, person I ever 'met' online. You are a credit to this nation. You understand the fools at DU better than anyone in or out of that sludge pit.

Frank, I know this time of year is busy for you and I totally understand. But you under-estimate your importance my dear friend. Hurry back. We'll hold the fort down (or the boat up) but it's not the same without you.

Just wanted to toss my two cents worth in to add to the thanks and praise for Frank.

I, too, went searching for a better home when the Fat Che hit the fan (to borrow Frank's inimitable style, if I may be so bold) at the other site.

I never posted there, just lurked. When things went downhill there, I knew I never would. To be blunt, I would never join a forum that had a certain reptilian POS in any position of authority.

I saw a post that Frank had left for greener pastures and I went Googling and found the Cave. So, in essence, I'm here due to him.
