Wow, what's wrong with Bob Dole?
It was nice for him to attend the Sebelius announcements - Senator Roberts was there as well, Brownback absent, not a surprise - but when President Obama walked out of the room with him he looked as stiff as a corpse, barely able to move. I thought he was going to topple over.

1. Uh...he's about 110.
Just sayin'.
A most curious turn of events here, the Country Club set acting like trailer court trash, and the trailer court trash acting with class and grace.

6. The guy's just shy of 90
Reaching that age after getting wounded as badly as he did in World War II isn't bad.
He bowed out from public life at the right time. My father in law was very badly wounded at the Battle of Stalingrad, and he barely made it to age 73.
Hmmmm.

7. My guess is age and the wounds he took for all of us in WW II
He lost the use of 1 arm and some major muscle groups of his torso in Italy and he turns 86 this July.

I'm actualy surprised he has survived as long as he has. He took some serious wounds in Italy.
The 10th Mtn Div was some pretty harcore guys...as Dole has shown. I wish him well.

13. Wow. And now we're surprised that someone almost 90 freakin' years old isn't bopping around the stage? Not to mention that he has serious war wounds.

16. Dole is really really old. He was ancient when he ran for President and that was the mid 1990's.
Plus he had some war injuries. Nice to see him supportive of Sebelius. What happened to the days when Repubs used to be friends with people on the other side of the aisle. Those days are long gone.
But the Democrats started it. After the election of November 1980.

20. Dole spoke at Daschle's hearing, didn't he? I think that was the last time I saw him and yeah, he seems like a generally nice guy.

21. Bob Dole and Bob Michel were the last of the honorable Republicans in Congress.
After them came Newt and his band of loonies.
And after them came Republican control of Congress, by the way.

22. Poor OLD Bob
Is OLD... OLD people sometimes get all stiff like that. A lot of OLD people don't want to stop working... I don't blame them.
Poor OLD Bob... I never agreed with his politics, but I hate to see any human being get OLD and stiff like that.
I dislike seeing it happen too; I was sort of unrealistically hoping, fantasizing, that he would run for president in 2012.
Along with Alexander Hamilton and Robert E. Lee, Robert Dole was a man who would have made an excellent president, but who never was.

23. I know this will come as a shock, but 90 year olds look, well, old and close to death....
It's very rare to see a 90 year old who doesn't look like they're ready to pack it in.
Such is life.
Uh-huh. Such is life.....and death. And that's why primitives such as the mountain man primitive, the "ThomWVA" primitive, want free medical care, and immediately. The mountain man primitive is getting old, and fears the inevitable. He seems to think free medical care will keep him alive forever.

25. He had a severe health problem in 2004, that compounded his limited mobility that were a result of his war injuries.

Since when has age ever stopped them from being as nasty as they usually are? Dole was a soldier, he loves his country, he supported Reagan, he fought against socialist non-sense, he did pretty much everything that good and descent citizens support and anti-American trash like the primitives find disgusting.
Nah, not buying it. These dolts lie about way too many things in public forums, things they really don't believe nor say behind closed doors.

I agree on that, sir, but every theological and social source I've ever consulted seems to agree that hypocrisy sometimes is a virtue; lying about one's true feelings.
Please notice the "sometimes."
I recall getting irked when seeing a photograph of Gerald Ford and other prominent Republicans sitting in the front pews at the funeral of Tipsy O'Neill some years ago. Tipsy O'Neill was a jerk, an asshole, a flaccid flabby decadent and foul alcoholic, a man whose Hate was too much for his body to hold, sordidly corrupt, and a flatulent boryborygmiac.
Tipsy O'Neill was a blot upon democracy.
It's probably true that the former president and all these prominent former aides to the then-gone Reagan administration felt exactly the same way I do, but felt compelled to attend because of their sense of decency.
After all, only God knows the worth of an individual, and perhaps we were all wrong.
So it's best to at least superficially err on the side of charity and compassion.
This is an instance where hypocrisy can be a virtue, and among the primitives on Skins's island, this is an instance about as rare as an 1804 silver dollar.

The Battle of Stalingrad?

That would explain "Sheets" Byrd, but what is Teddy the Swimmer's excuse....
He's only 77....

exactly. I wonder where he got his politics.....

Of course it's more likely to be the latter, as many Germans wounded there didn't come back, much less live to be 73 years old.

Exactly!
Like father, like...whatever....
