Activist Groups Urge Obama to Reject Boy Scout Honor
President Obama says he wants to be president of all the people. But some groups are urging him to make an exception for the Boy Scouts of America.
Critics of the Scouts who are outraged that the group is allowed to exclude gays and atheists while receiving federal funding are urging Obama to reject the group's honorary presidency, a designation bestowed on every U.S. president since William Howard Taft in 1910.
"I'm hoping and praying he turns down the honorary presidency," said Howard Menzer, president of Scouting for All, which advocates for inclusion of gays into the Boy Scouts.
"No way should he be involved with a discriminatory group. That would be the best thing that could happen if he said, 'You discriminate too much for me. I can't be your honorary president.' I think that might begin to change a few things."
You mean like the NAACP or his "former" church? ::)
In 2000, the Supreme Court ruled that the Scouts can bar homosexuals from being troop leaders.

No, that would be RIGHT! And I'd bet that involvement in Scouting would dramatically increase....

It's gay leaders that aren't allowed in the Boy Scouts. There are gay scouts.....but not openly gay that I know of........and atheist can belong but they probably wouldn't be allowed to disrupt any type religious ceremonies the scouts were attending......in other words "Shut the **** up DUmmie and respect the rights of others for just a damn minute."
BTW: Son had a board of review Monday night, all is good to go on getting a couple of Citizenship badges, rank of "Life" scout and his God and Church award. Still on track to get his "Eagle" by late fall.
Sorry for the bragging but I'm proud of him......and so is his Scoutmasters.
....and for any liberals reading this. He's a very polite, well manner boy, very conservative politically and wouldn't harm a fly. But he could and would still whup your dope smoking punk kids ass. HEY! A new bumper sticker "MY BOY SCOUT CAN WH......" Naw, the Boy Scouts probably wouldn't approve of that..... :rotf:
