attention!! your attention please!! it is NOT the great depression, and even if it was, you have to look past it, because it won't be the great depression anymore as soon as my Obamagastic policies take effect, and besides, even if it is the great depression, it isn't my fault. it's the last guy's fault. I wasn't even here. I was registering dead people to vote democrat when this got messed up.
Obama insists economy will rebound
Reporting from Los Angeles and Washington — President Obama today said he was "absolutely confident" that the economy will rebound as his policies take hold, and he urged Americans to look beyond the immediate impact of falling stock markets.
Speaking to reporters after meeting in the Oval Office with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Obama cautioned that it will take time to reverse the problems caused by past government decisions.
"We dug a very deep hole for ourselves," Obama said during a televised media availability. "There were a lot of very bad decisions that were made. We are cleaning up that mess.
"It is going to be fits and starts to get the mess cleaned up, but it is going to be cleaned up," he said. "We are going to recover and emerge more prosperous and unified, and I think more protected from systemic risk, than ever before. "

Cleaning up who's mess? Wasn't he in the Senate? Where was his voice while the mess was being made? Not to mention the Dems have been in control of Congress...and the banking and financial committees... since 2006.
What :censored: malarky.

he's forgetting his promise to raise capital gains taxes out of "fairness", I suppose. :whatever:
"What I'm looking at is not the day-to-day gyrations of the stock market but the long-term ability for the United States and the entire world economy to regain its footing," he said during an Oval Office mini press conference with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. "And, you know, the stock market is sort of like a tracking poll in politics. It bobs up and down day to day, and if you spend all your time worrying about that, then you're probably going to get the long-term strategy wrong."
"Now, having said that, the banking system has been dealt a heavy blow," he added. "And so there are a lot of losses that are working their way through the system. And it's not surprising that the market is hurting as a consequence. In fact, I think what we're seeing is that as people absorb the depths of the problem that existed in the banking system, as well as the international ramifications of it, that there's going to be a natural reaction.
"On the other hand, what you're now seeing is profit and earning ratios are starting to get to the point where buying stocks is a potentially good deal if you've got a long-term perspective on it."

Campaigning for POTUS instead of doing his job, that's where.

Guess what O...you may have wowed a bunch of lame brains on the campaign trail but now it is time to play in the adult world of reality.
Your policies suck for the economy, they did in the 70s and they do now.
People invest and participate when they have an incentive to and you have removed that like Carter and his "malaise" did.

more protected from systemic risk
he's gonna boot Barney and Chris and get Frank Raines to resign ?
that really would be a good thing !

Do you guys remember "Baghdad Bob?" That Iraqi Press Secretary dude who kept telling the people, "There is no crisis! No reason for concern!" Meanwhile, the city was getting bombed by our guys for like 2 weeks straight.
Obama reminds me of this guy. Telling us one thing while our eyes can definitely see something else.
If I recall correctly, the Iraqi people didn't really fall for Bob's bullshit, especially as they climbed out of the rubble around them.
And I suspect the American people aren't that stupid either. At least I hope so. :thatsright:

Of course it will recover. Eventually. The only question is how much slower that will happen with Obama as President than it would have otherwise.

Why how Clintonian of him! :whatever:
He's really talented. He can tap dance while driving that bus he's running over people with.

H5 for telling it like it is.
-
He is so clueless.
-
Has it recovered yet? 0bama said it would! So let it be written, so let it be done [/DUmmie]

well, after he has admitted to being in bed with the unions you can see that whole idea go out the window. He tells us to buy stocks and then he does something else to tank the market.

"There were a lot of very bad decisions that were made. We are cleaning up that mess.
and by the way, this is a ridiculously juvenile and ungrateful statement, considering that the bush administration went above and beyond the call of duty to ease the transition. especially at the depts of treasury and defense, the administration expidited the security clearance process and gave them never before seen access to any and all information that they may have needed. ineffect, they threw the doors of those department open to the incoming Obamistration. it was unprecedented.
if they hit the ground stumbling, it their own damned fault.
but it's miserable and petty of the president to even attempt to say "it's the other guy's fault". I don't remember GWB blaming a thing on clinton, and there was plenty of blame to allocate when he took office.

Unless the "mess" he was talking about has to do with the ludicrous Fannie/Freddie rules to give mortgages to people who can't pay them back...
Probably not, though, huh?

he is still campaigning. say things you don't mean, promise to do things you have no intention of doing, and when all else fails, blame george bush.
ultimately, this strategy is a loser. he can survive this way for a while, but it's all going to fall in on him sooner or later.
