Upper-Income Taxpayers Look for Ways to Sidestep Obama Tax-Hike Plan

President Would Slap More Taxes on Those Who Make Over $250K to Fund Health Care
By EMILY FRIEDMAN
March 2, 2009

President Barack Obama's tax proposal – which promises to increase taxes for those families with incomes of $250,000 or more -- has some Americans brainstorming ways to decrease their pay, even if it's just by a dollar.

A 63-year-old attorney based in Lafayette, La., who asked not to be named, told ABCNews.com that she plans to cut back on her business to get her annual income under the quarter million mark should the Obama tax plan be passed by Congress and become law.

So far, Obama's tax plan is being looked at skeptically by both Democrats and Republicans and therefore may not pass at all.

"We are going to try to figure out how to make our income $249,999.00," she said.

"We have to find a way out where we can make just what we need to just under the line so we can benefit from Obama's tax plan," she added. "Why kill yourself working if you're going to give it all away to people who aren't working as hard?"

And that line pretty much sums up exactly why massive taxation has failed in every country it's been tried in.

Hell I make under $250K and I am looking for ways to hide that money! He is gonna come looking for it sooner or later. Probably sooner. Include the elimination of loops holes, mortgage credit reduction etc, taxes going up on the middle class as well. I need to buy another rental property or two. Damn things always seem to be empty...  :-)

Oh, they'll try it for a while, but even the sheeple know you can only blame Bush for so long.

From a Memphis fan:

New IRS Payment Rules

Income taxes are normally due on April 15th unless that date falls on a Saturday or Sunday, in which case they are due on Monday the 16th or 17th.

However, I have been told that rule has recently been changed for this and for the next 4 years, tax payments will not be due until you are nominated to a cabinet position.

Please check with your Tax adviser to confirm.

I don't make anywhere close to 200k, but I talked to the unemployment office yesterday and found out what my benefits will be. Then I crunched some numbers. Considering the 100 miles a day I won't be commuting anymore, and the money I spent at the company cafeteria, the ten percent pay cut I took at the beginning of the year, and if I quit smoking right now, and adding in the Obama health insurance subsidy, I will actually net a few dollars more by sitting on my ass than I was getting in my paycheck the past two months. Why the hell should I make any serious effort at finding another job any time soon, when I have guaranteed support for the next six months, and a likely six month extension after that?
