Limbaugh's latest attacker: RNC's Steele (http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20090302/pl_politico/19498)
On the same night he was offering the keynote address to the Conservative Political Action Conference, Rush Limbaugh drew criticism from an unlikely source: Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele.
In a little-noticed interview Saturday night, Steele dismissed Limbaugh as an “entertainer†whose show is “incendiary†and “ugly.â€
Steele’s criticism makes him the highest-ranking Republican to pick a fight with the popular and polarizing conservative talk show host.
But the new RNC chairman’s extraordinary comments won’t sit well with the millions of conservative listeners Limbaugh draws each week, and Steele aides scrambled to limit the damage Monday morning by trying to change the subject.

Thanks BC, just sent Michael a special Schade love letter. The auto-reply indicates that it will be included in the next Chairman report. It made me feel good, but :whatever:

Gotta agree with Rush's assessment of the GOP. I love Steele and think he's brilliant. He stepped wrong this time.
-
Rush is right about Steele; he needs to do his job. He needs to raise money and figure out how to get Republicans elected in 2010. He's got a very tough task ahead of him.
Of course CNN set him up on that interview. (D.L. Hughley? Give me a break.)
Just another "gotcha" from the lamestream media.

Steele to Rush: I'm sorry (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0309/19517.html)
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele says he has reached out to Rush Limbaugh to tell him he meant no offense when he referred to the popular conservative radio host as an “entertainer” whose show can be “incendiary.”
“My intent was not to go after Rush – I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh,” Steele said in a telephone interview. “I was maybe a little bit inarticulate. … There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership.”
In the interview with Politico, Steele called Limbaugh “a very valuable conservative voice for our party.”
“He brings a very important message to the American people to wake up and pay attention to what the administration is doing," Steele said. "Number two, there are those out there who want to look at what he’s saying as incendiary and divisive and ugly. That’s what I was trying to say. It didn’t come out that way. … He does what he does best, which is provoke: He provokes thought, he provokes the left. And they’re clearly the ones who are most excited about him.”
...
"I was briefly encouraged by the courageous comments made my counterpart in the Republican Party over the weekend challenging Rush Limbaugh as the leader of the Republican Party and referring to his show as ‘incendiary’ and ‘ugly,’" Kaine said in a statement. "However, Chairman Steele’s reversal this evening and his apology to Limbaugh proves the unfortunate point that Limbaugh is the leading force behind the Republican Party, its politics and its obstruction of President Obama’s agenda in Washington."

Hey, if Tim Kaine's unhappy, then I'm okay with it.

Smart move on Steele's part. Rush would have eviscerated him.
Rush is spot on about the reform needed in the GOP. How many more elections do they have to lose before they "get" it?
-
Rush is right, but he needs to give Steele a chance before he pulls the rug out from under him.

Actually, Republicans have to get their act together. I'm glad Steele set the record straight but he has to be aware that politics is war, that when he is going on CNN or whatever, he is entering the arena of battle and he has to be as sharp and articulate as he was in that great Twilight Zone advert he did way back. He has to remember that the person who is interviewing him is not his friend, he doesn't have to be combative but he needs to be clear and hold the out-of-context ammo to a minimum.
Steele didn't have broad support among the grass roots because we were looking to give him a chance, I think most of us really thought he was a very good communicator who was really conservative. That he was ready for the job. He manned up here so my confidence is somewhat restored but we can't have a huge home run like Rush hit be instantly marginalized because someone else on our side doesn't have their brain and mouth in sync.

Unless I missed it, Rush did not say a word against Steele.

He didn't, but he started trashing the Republicans. I agree it's warranted, but let the new leader try to fix it first. I'm kinda divided on this issue. Hell, I'm not even a Republican, never have been.

They deserved the trashing IMO.

They deserved the trashing IMO.
Indeed.
We're conservatives first and republicans second. We're republicans only by default of the fact that democrats have no room for us. If the GOP wants to survive it needs us.

I agree.......or else it would be just another RINO leading a pack of RINO's.

They made nice so it all worked out. :)

IT"S ALL GOOD (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/03/03/steele-and-limbaugh-speak/)
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said Tuesday he has spoken with Rush Limbaugh about his comments regarding the conservative radio talk show host.
"We had a nice conversation last night," Steele said in a statement sent to CNN. "We are all good."
RNC officials described the call as private and did not elaborate on the details of the conversation between the two men.

I intended to play the Smashmouth remake of "Why can't we be friends" when the whole dustup started but never got around to it, lol. Now it seems it was all much ado about nothing. C'est la vie.

Merged with existing thread in Politics.

Steele was set up...but he was also wrong to make any derogatory comments about Rush. I wonder what Mark Levin had to say about this...I will listen to him tonight hopefully.
Rush, Mark and Hannity..they are our voice and the RNC chairman needs to acknowledge it.

Look what AOL said.... :whatever:
"(March 3) -- In political circles, all eyes seem to be trained on Rush Limbaugh these days. Democrats are working hard to tie the conservative radio talk show host to the Republican Party's policies. And Republicans seem unable to distance themselves from him, even though some are clearly uncomfortable with his message."
-
"Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a rising GOP star, told CNN's Larry King that he was glad Steele apologized. "I think Rush is a leader for many conservatives and says things that people are concerned about," he said. "
