Obama Will Sign Spending Bill Despite Earmarks

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama will break a campaign pledge and sign a budget bill laden with millions in lawmakers' pet projects, administration officials said.

Administration budget chief Peter Orszag and White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel both downplayed the $410 billion spending bill and signaled Obama would hold his nose and sign it. Orszag said: "We want to just move on. Let's get this bill done, get it into law and move forward.

*snip*

"First, this is a $1.7 trillion deficit he inherited. Let's be clear about that. We inherited this deficit and we inherited $4 trillion of new debt," Emanuel said. "That is the facts."

Facts, aides said, would be the cornerstone of the administration's public relations push. Officials faced a tough haul, even as Orszag and others said the proposal would raise taxes on wealthy Americans and increase energy costs.

Emanuel said energy costs are too low, anyway. U.S. car companies relied too long on gas-guzzling autos and failed to invest in alternative energy vehicles, he said. The time for new auto fuels is now, he contended.

Hey Rahm... :bigbird:

Inherited $4 trillion in new debt?  Excuse me...  Bush was not in the Oval Office forcing the President to sign that debt into play.  That was his own decision to make.

So this is how the next 4 years is going to play out.  "It's not our fault.  Don't expect us to take responsibility for our actions, because it's someone elses fault."   :whatever:

Un ****ing believable.

he has simply redefined "earmark".  an earmark isn't an earmark if t wasn't snuck into the legislation without his knowledge;  since he knows about all of these, they are therefore not earmarks.  moreover, since he knows about them, they are therefore transparent.

this guy seems to enjoy dinking with the meaning of words at least as much as the clenis did . . .

"I did not make signature with that legislation . . . the stimulated bill . . . " . . .  :-)

gitmo is suddenly in compliance with the geneva accords, iraq isn't a lost cause anymore, the great depression stopped being referred to referred to as the great depression when he realized it would look odd in the face of his 3 trillion dollar budget . . . that sort of thing.

I think afghan "surge" could wind up being a couple of dogs before it's all over with.

As I recall, Uncle Zer0 said he was going to read every bill that came to his desk, before signing it.  He lied.
Uncle Zer0 said Congress needed to hurry to get the Porkulus bill passed or we were all doooooomed.  He lied.  Then he took the wifey to Chicago for a Valentine's dinner and waited 4 days to sign the bill.  Coulda spent those 4 days reading the bill.   :whatever:  Now he's signing way more billions.   :banghead:

There was something in the DUmpster a few days ago about attribution error that appears appropriate here as well.

Doug Schoen (sp) said on Fox this morning that to the dems this economic "crisis" was too much of an opportunity to push through their social programs for the dems to pass up.
That isn`t the exact words but was the sentiment.
They don`t give a damn about anything except installing socialism. :censored:

TRUE, it is pretty obvious that the Obama bills are not designed to "stimulate" anything except big government and monument it perminantly into the budget.
