Title: Happy Monday & Texas Independence Day !!
Post by: Thor on March 02, 2009, 05:36:59 AM
Today is Texas' Independence Day!! Starting off the week in good fashion. For me, I get to do some stuff for the VFW and their Bingo efforts. Then, it's getting ready to leave on Thursday for the new job. It'll be a busy week for me.

Monday...bleah.  Crappy night, shaping into a crappy day.  I would just crawl back into bed, but I have a dentist appointment this morning.

Had an episode with my intermittant stabbing back pain/gut pain last night...last 3 friggin hours, and residuals for another 3 after that.  I swear, I'd rather go through labor than deal with this.  And the guily on top of it, is I had to wake MrFlame up, because I needed him to help me cope.  Now I'm exhausted and still feel blah.

Colder than crap outside today, too.

On a positive note, it's Dr Seuss's birthday, and my little guy dressed up as Thing 2 for school...blue hair and everything.

What a weekend. It's really good to be home.

All the schools are closed, as we're under about 8 inches or so of snow. My mother broke her hip for the second time in about two years. This was the "other" hip, sho she has a matching set. She was at her beach house when it happened, about two hours away, so my siblings and I had to all rush down to the hospital in Lewes, DE on Thursday. We spent the weekend doing the waiting room wait and the hospital room sit. The surgery went ok, but rehab is a bitch for her for a whole host of reasons. We're wondering if she'll ever walk again, or if it is actually time for a nursing home arrangement. It's basically up to how hard she wants to work to get back her mobility. She'll be coming back "home" for weeks at a rehab facility.

Wow. This should be a "Crying in my beer" whine. Anyway, it's good for me to be home with my girls again. And the bonus is that we have a day off together.

Thanks, Flame!

I told my mother to look on the bright side; at least she can't break any MORE sides of her hip!

My humor goes underappreciated in my family.

Monday.  It's going okay so far.  I'm gonna be pretty busy all day I suspect.  But it's sunny outside and my hair looks great.   :-)

It definitely feels like a Monday. I had a lot of questions at the Info Desk today that I couldn't answer. I felt so stupid having to refer everyone to someone else. I'm still new on the desk (only been staffing it for about a month since the RIF's). I have been doing better but there is still a lot I don't know.

One girl had a question about a program called SPSS, a program with which I have zero familiarity. Another needed help citing references using the APA style. That one I felt I should have been able to answer. I looked through the APA Style Manual and just couldn't find the answer she needed. So I had to refer her to the on-call librarian.

There were other questions too but they escape me now.

Some days I feel so good because I surprise myself when I'm able to answer a tricky technical question for a student. Other days, like today, I just feel useless.

The only thing that's keeping me going is knowing that tonight for dinner I'm having steak and baked potato.  :-)

I bought a 6 pack of Dos Equis Saturday, there are 4 left.  There's a perfect spot in the door to store beer.   :-)

And I called Mission Metroplex and scheduled a pick up of the old fridge for Friday.  I couldn't fit it out the door in the kitchen to put it on the deck, so it's in my front hall right now.  I'm glad to know they'll be giving it to a family that really needs it.

APA format is the pits.  I still get confused on it.  I think my school has a link to Purdue for questions about it.  I know that my last paper I wrote for Econ, I had minor mistakes in citing a personal interview that got docked a couple of points, but otherwise the professor said the format was good.

I was an English major in college so I only had to concern myself with the MLA format. Just skimming through the APA Style Manual, I could tell I would have probably flunked if I had to try and cite all my papers that way.

Yeah, I'm used to the MLA format as well.  And that whole little headline for each paragraph change is retarded too.  If people just read the damn paper they could tell that you're moving points.   :whatever:

AMEX has pissed me off for the last time.  I'm paying them off this week and closing the account.

More later.

Back to NH for first day of work back here, had a foot of snow to drive through.  Welcome back, asshole!

And just got told I'm doing 12-hour day(s) starting tomorrow.

I'm die.

Meh--getting rid of a credit card is never a bad thing.  They want to play ****-****, I say fine, I'll take my toys and walk away.  But as much as they're crying the poorass, it still amazes me how many millions they'll spend on junk mail, commercials, etc.

And I just found out the 12's are only for a couple of days.  Seems one of our diesels wanted to spew a few hundred gallons of glycol around last week while I ws gone and douche everything down.  Fun, fun, fun.

I'm sure you will end up doing great staffing the desk. Glad you still have a job after the RIF.

I had a great weekend followed by a sucky day at work. When I thought the day would not get any worse, while eating dinner I rec'd a phone call that a dear neighbor had passed away. I seen the ambulance Saturday afternoon, but did not realize it was his final ride. He was a veteran and our community lost a hero. I will miss seeing him walk his dogs using his "mobility scooter"  Ed, you were a gentle and dear man, and will be missed by many.

We're home.

Started traveling today at 8am Pacific time and got home here about 10pm Central time after switching planes in the Cleveland Airport, which for some half ass reason is actually in Kentucky. :p

Sore and a little strung out but happy to be home.  I'm swilling coffee from my San Diego Wild Animal Park Big Ass Mug and was able to assume my kingly throne for the first time in almost a week.  :innocent:

Any guy here will back me up; your own toilet bowl is what you miss most when you travel.  :-)

Gotta pick up the Pup from the doggie jail tomorrow and schedule an appointment to get my knee bone looked at.
