Title: Baby survives being flung by tornado

Quote
A tornado flung an 11-month-old Tennessee boy more than 300 feet, leaving him face down in mud, emergency workers said.

The baby was expected to be released from a Nashville hospital Thursday into the custody of his grandparents.

The Tuesday night storms that ravaged several southern states and killed at least 55 people demolished the boy's house in Castalian Springs, northeast of Nashville. The child, identified only as Kyson, and his mother were in their home when the twister flattened it. The body of his 23-year-old mother, Kerri Stowell, was found several hundred yards in the other direction, The Washington Post reported.

More than three hours after the twister struck, emergency workers said they passed by the motionless child once thinking he was a plastic doll, but on a second pass, saw him move, the report said.

Doctors at Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt University in Nashville said the tot had no fractures or major injuries apart from some bruising, the Nashville Tennessean reported.

His 45-year-old grandfather, Doug Stowell, said he and his wife would raise the child, the Post said.

Amazing that he survived, it's a tough road the grandparents have now losing their daughter and raising a baby.

This worried me a lot.  Iused to live in Castallian Springs.  In the 80's.  I worked for Sumner County Hospital at that time as well.

Castallian Springs is about 9 miles from Gallatin which is about 12 miles from Hendersonville.  Castallian Springs is soooooooo very small and very very rural.  I have wondered about the people I went to church with, worked with and basically how they are doing.  I loved that area.
We have quite a few friends in Nashville.  Gallatin is home to Reba  and quite a few country stars but that area of Castallian Springs is just
plain country folks.  Good people...good hearts...the whole bunch.  Which is not many.  My heart is with them today.
