aside from being a blatant violation of the second amendment, the reasoning behind this move
is stupid. we are banning automatic weapons because it's good for mexico? what the hell has
mexico got to do with it?
Obama to Seek New Assault Weapons Ban
The Ban Expired in 2004 During the Bush Administration.
The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today.
"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters.
Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.
"I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum." Holder said at a news conference on the arrest of more than 700 people in a drug enforcement crackdown on Mexican drug cartels operating in the U.S.
Mexican government officials have complained that the availability of sophisticated guns from the United States have emboldened drug traffickers to fight over access routes into the U.S.

We knew it was coming just like we knew he was lying when he said not to worry about buying more guns.....and his logic? To help Mexico...What a piece of work this guy is.

Yeah, let's ban some guns in order to help Mexico!! :whatever: That's NOT going to help as many of them come from other countries than the US. What's wrong with Mexico taking care of themselves?!?!?!?!? Obama is proving himself a liar.
-
They didn't learn from 1994, did they?

Weird, I couldn't reply to this for a while. The comments on the article are priceless. How stupid does a person have to be to think banning something is going to make a criminal not do it? Why not just have severe punishment for a person committing a crime with one, trying to export it to another country, or deporting the gangs that are running them?

I think not being able to reply was caused by the threads being merged. (I'm guessing)
That is another thing that the dems believe that make no sense. They want to make gun ownership a crime, but they are against stiff mandatory penalties for using guns while committing crimes.

Yeah, let's not address the REAL problem. I'm all for some very stiff penalties for the use of a gun while committing a crime, up to and including the death penalty.

Will the Justice Department show that since 2004 there has been an increase in the illegal use of Assualt Rifles, or any verifiable proof that the expiration of the ban has led to higher numbers getting into Mexico?

Pelosi tosses cold water on assault-weapon ban

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tossed cold water on the prospect of reinstating the assault weapons ban, highlighting Democrats’ reluctance to take on gun issues.
Attorney General Eric Holder raised the prospect Wednesday that the administration would push to bring back the ban. But Pelosi (D-Calif.) indicated on Thursday that he never talked to her. The Speaker gave a flat “no†when asked if she had talked to administration officials about the ban.
“On that score, I think we need to enforce the laws we have right now,†Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. “I think it's clear the Bush administration didn’t do that.â€

I have mentioned this before...but I am friends with both the owners of ARMALITE and Springfield
Both plants are in the same little city, that is a very conservative town...
I also have many friends that work at both plants....this really pisses me off.

It's pretty messed up when even the AG notes, at a minimum it might help Mexico. So he's not even able to justify it would have any affect on crime in America. As if prying away the constitutional rights of American citizens away to benefit a foreign government is justifiable.
To top it off, the ABC news article specifically mentions Mexican cartels using automatic weapons and grenades. Items which wouldn't be effected by the previous ban, and which by all intents and purposes currently are effectively banned.
Wasn't it but a few weeks ago, he ranted against people stockpiling :redbird:

According to the firearm and ammo sales in my area since November... nobody took his advice about stockpiling.

I and many others here and at other places warned that it was time to get yourselves armed and loaded with ammo.
-
Hey let them try!
The last time they were so stupid as to attempt this we took the house and the senate.

I and many others here and at other places warned that it was time to get yourselves armed and loaded with ammo.
And I, and probably others like me, quietly went about gathering the last of the ammo and weapons we needed.
So are you one of the 5 "virgins" with ammo in your mags? Or are you one of the 5 "virgins" who are about to get buggared by Teh One?

That's a Roger. It is heart warming to see a little disagreement between the Exec. branch and the legislative branch. Kinda brings the Magic Negro back down to earth.
