More stupidity from Larry Mohron of Drudge Retort. It's full of moonbats and wingnuts.
Fred Phelps has an appeal in some US District Court I don't remember where. Anyone who is for Free Speech must demand that Fred Phelps verdict Be overturned or You don't believe in Freedom of Speech.

Phelps could be popping a squat on LarryMo's grave and calling him a fag, and Larry would still defend his right to free speech.
For that I admire him.

I believe in freedom of speech, but I don't think the verdict should be entirely overturned.
As stated by the Supreme Court in Chaplinsky, 315 U.S. 568 (1942), and reiterated throughout free speech cases since then:
The "freedom of speech" protected by the constitution is not absolute at all times and under all circumstances and there are well-defined and narrowly limited classes of speech, the prevention and punishment of which does not raise any constitutional problem, including the lewd and obscene, the profane, the libelous, and the insulting or fighting words which by their very utterance inflict injury or tend to incite an immediate breach of the peace.
Phelps' conduct falls within this unprotected class. He is not offering his opinions in a valid attempt at social discourse, which is certainly protected, but rather harassing people for attention in a manner that is certain to provoke violence. Not protected, and for good reasons.

All I know is he is too enamored with the First Amendment, but does not care for the others. He's a moonbat for sure. He probably posts at DU.
