President Obama today signed into law a $787 billion economic stimulus plan that he said begins "the essential work of keeping the American dream alive in our time."
In a speech and signing ceremony in Denver, Obama said the new law is aimed at creating millions of jobs and halting the U.S. economy's downward spiral.
Obama signed the massive, nearly 1,100-page American Recovery and Reinvestment Act at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, a setting intended to underscore the new law's role in creating clean-energy jobs. Before the signing, the president toured a solar panel installation on the museum's roof.
From Colorado, Obama is scheduled to fly to Arizona, where he plans to unveil an initiative tomorrow to help millions of homeowners avoid foreclosure.
The bill passed the House Friday by a vote of 246 to 183 and was approved that night in the Senate by 60 to 38. No House Republicans voted for the package. In the Senate, only three Republicans supported the bill, narrowly giving it a filibuster-proof majority and handing Obama a major legislative victory within his first month in office.

0Bama and the Dems now own this economy.
-
I went over to the Fox News forum concerning this, and man, are there a lot of angry people out there. Over 3400 comments, and except for a few moonbat koolaiders, they are ready for pitchforks and torches. Even the self-professed Democrats.
OT: Did anyone hear about new tax problems for Rahm Emmanuel? Something about living rent-free for five years?
Update on 2/18: 4,823 comments, overwhelmingly infuriated with all things Big Zero-related. Koolaid comments drowned out.

You wouldn't want Rahm to feel aukward around the rest of the cabinet, would you?

Just a little more of "Obama" and I'll have to run the for sale add for my stocks under the FREE DOGS section of the paper.

Wonder if the "tanking" has anything to do with the fact...that NO ONE has read the damn bill in its entirety?
God only knows what's really in that thing!
People should be mad.....however...they should have gotten mad last Friday before the Senate voted on it. :censored:
Now we are all stuck with it.... :thatsright:

Welcome to the new ObamaReich. We did get mad last Friday. We did let our congresscritters know we were mad about it. They ignored us. Again.
Please drive around to the second window.

And when the economy DOESN'T improve by next November, the voters will remember who voted for this turd.
The people running for the House and Senate seats will ensure that, at least.

. . . actually, it seems to me that there is a doomsday scenario; the economy comes back on its own, or all of this spending creates an artificial and temporary uptick, he gets credit for parting the red sea, and '10 turns into an even bigger slaughter than 06 and 08. and the dems are given the numbers in congress to fully enact their socialist nightmare . . . forever.

keep the faith brother, the laws of economic reality can't let this lead balloon float that long

isn't this odd? no capitol hill scenery, no democrat congressional leaders (the ones who actually committed this atrocity) crowded around behind him . . . he's not even in washington DC. aside from not being willing to share the spotlight with pelosi/reid/frank, who I am sure are all pissed off, this seems like it's significant. it's as though he is still campaigning.

This bill had no hearings and was through backroom deals at night. Obama sure brought change in the form of Chicago style politics.

but when it hits the floor, it will splat all over your children, your children's children and your children's children's children.

when the republicans take congress in '10, the first action needs to be a repeal of this... they're gonna need veto-proof numbers though
-
The solution is obvious: We need more government intervention. We should try another stimulus package. If that doesn't work, let's try wage and price controls.

a lot of the money will not have been spent in '10. it should be relatively easy to stop funding those bits of insanity that haven't actually occurred yet. but a good bit of it will be money under the bridge by then, so to speak.

Did you stop to wonder WHY that particular solar panel manufacturer was selected as Teh place for Teh One to bless Teh bill with Teh Signature?
That particular solar panel shop - according to what I just heard on Glenn Beck - has a wage structure where everybody, from president to janitor, is paid exactly the same wage. That particular solar panel shop provides for 6 weeks paid time off for it's employees. That particular solar panel shop takes a portion of everybody's wages and donates that portion to charity. That particular solar panel shop makes every friggin' business decision by majority vote of the entire company. In other words, that particular solar panel shop runs it's shop by socialist principles.
Did I mention that this particular solar panel factory, in this age where manufacturers of solar panels can't keep up with the demand, have been riding right on the ragged edge of bankruptsy for the past two years because of it's socialist business practices pricing their product right out of the market, and will be taking a substantial cut from the Porkzilla "stimulus" money now that it is the law of the land?
That's why Dear Leader chose that particular solar panel manufacturer to sign Teh Signature to Teh Porkzilla bill.

Sorta like the Twentieth Century Motor Company?

A very good analogy. Except this time, it's in Colorado :banghead: :banghead:
Too damned close to Galt's Gulch for my comfort.

I assumed it was because he was a big campaign donor. :uhsure: :-)
oh, wait, he didn't have any "big" campaign donors, so he must have been several hundred thousand of the 2 million small campaign donors.

Exactly the Obamassiah's goal for the whole country. Everyone, from corporate CEOs to 10-hour-per week retail cashiers will get the same amount in their paycheck every two weeks. Except, of course, Himself and His best buddies, who are the only ones in the world smart enough to be trusted to spend any money.
