U.S. Sen. Roland Burris has acknowledged he sought to raise campaign funds for then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich at the request of the governor’s brother at the same time he was making a pitch to be appointed to the Senate seat previously held by President Barack Obama.

Burris' latest comments in Peoria Monday night were the first time he has publicly said he was actively trying to raise money for Blagojevich. Previously Burris has left the impression that he always balked at the issue of raising money for the governor because of his interest in the Senate appointment.

In comments to reporters after appearing at a Democratic dinner, the senator several times contradicted his latest under-oath affidavit that he quietly filed with the Illinois House impeachment panel earlier this month. That affidavit was itself an attempt to clean up his live, sworn testimony to the panel Jan. 8, when he omitted his contacts with several Blagojevich insiders.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan on Monday night joined a growing chorus of Democratic officials who want a deeper investigation of Burris' comments. But she did not go as far as some, including Republicans, who have said specifically they want Burris investigated for possible perjury.

this has got to be a result of the fact that lying was considered to be perfectly acceptable political behavior in illinois.

Gee, I wonder why our illustrious media didn't find this out sooner? :banghead:  Why does everything come out after the important decisions?

I know, WE, I know.  I just wish people would call the media on it.  Stop trying to tell everyone you're objective, just tell the viewers"...No, we're giving him hummers and we'll tell you what  to believe..."

"States attorney looking at possible charges against Burris
The plot thickens in the controversy surrounding Illinois Senator Roland Burris.

Documents are now under review to determine whether perjury charges should be filed against Burris. Burris told reporters Monday night in Peoria that he tried to raise money for former Governor Rod Blagojevich before being appointed to the Senate.

Illinois Speaker of the House Michael Madigan turned over documents to Sangamon County State's attorney John Schmidt on Tuesday. The documents are transcripts of Burris' testimony to the House Impeachment Committee. It all surrounds how Burris got appointed to the Senate by former Governor Rod Blagojevich.

Burris told the committee in January he hadn't had contact with key Blagojevich staffers or offered anything in return for President Barack Obama's vacated Senate seat.

Last weekend, Burris released an affidavit that indicated he had three fundraising calls from Robert Blagojevich, the governor's brother and finance chairman, asking Burris for fundraising assistance."  link (http://www.wandtv.com/global/story.asp?s=9860232)

I don't know if this will go anywhere, but the Dems in Illinois are trying to make themselves look honest at least. So, they may pursue this.

If this starts to look like it might touch on Obama at all, Burris will be out in no time, same as Blagojevich.  Otherwise, Dems never leave office.

Sen. Roland "Tombstone" Burris (D-Lying Weasel) hatches his lies by the minute; they bubble out of his mouth like insect larvae from the mud.

Once their wings are dry, they launch from our senator's lips and buzz.
Yet with all the buzzing, let's consider a few things.

First, there are two Chicago politicians who should get credit for Burris being in the Senate to embarrass everyone in Illinois. No, not just former Gov. Rod Blagojevich. He appointed Burris, but that's not the whole story. I'm talking about two other Chicago pols:

President Barack Obama.  And Illinois House Speaker Michael "What Affidavit?" Madigan. ...

I think this illustrates your point nicely.  (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/chi-kass-18-feb18,0,4327749.column) :lmao:

because the congressional black caucus was about to lower the boom on harry "doddering old man" reid.  he promptly fell apart like a cheap suit. a story from Jan 7:

Congressional Black Caucus OKs Burris
41-member group votes unanimously in favor of Illinois appointee

WASHINGTON - The Congressional Black Caucus is calling for Illinois Democrat Roland Burris to be allowed to fill President-elect Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat.

Chairwoman Barbara Lee of California says the 41-member caucus on Wednesday voted unanimously to support seating Burris.

Democratic leaders had resisted seating Burris because he was appointed by embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich, but their stance was softening Wednesday.
