Title: Beaver spotted in Detroit after 75 years
Post by: thundley4 on February 17, 2009, 11:19:25 AM
"DETROIT, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- A beaver has been spotted in Detroit, following a 75 year absence from the city, ecologists say.
The Detroit Free Press reported Monday that a single beaver lodge has been discovered in an intake canal at Detroit Edison's Conners Creek power plant on the city's east riverfront.

John Hartig, the Detroit River refuge manager for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, said beavers were last spotted in the Detroit River at least 75 years ago. He said the beaver habitat shows that river cleanup efforts are working.

"It's part of that larger story of ecological recovery," Hartig said.

Other species have recently returned to the river in recent years as well, including sturgeon, whitefish, peregrine falcons, bald eagles and walleye, Hartig said.

"If it's cleaner for them, it's cleaner for us, too," he said."UPI (http://www.upi.com/Science_News/2009/02/17/Beaver_spotted_in_Detroit_after_75_years/UPI-31451234847673/)

The jokes should write themselves.

Uh, that's not a "beaver lodge." That's a combo whore/crackhouse.

Woodard Ave was the bain of my geophysicist career.  Our corporate headquarters was on it.

Man, I HATED it when they told me "You have to go to corporate".
The worst part is between 6 and 8 mile roads! As you get further downtown it's actually pretty nice where Mike Illitch has sunk a bunch of money,The Fox Theatre and Comerica Park...Cops all over the place on foot and horseback...They just don't venture into the Cass Corridor{right there by Wayne State} It's the Cabrini Green of Detroit! My dad has accounts down there and always goes strapped! :-)
