Baby-faced boy is father at 13 (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article2233878.ece)

BOY dad Alfie Patten yesterday admitted he does not know how much nappies cost — but said: “I think it’s a lot.â€
Baby-faced Alfie, who is 13 but looks more like eight, became a father four days ago when his girlfriend Chantelle Steadman gave birth to 7lb 3oz Maisie Roxanne.
He told how he and Chantelle, 15, decided against an abortion after discovering she was pregnant.
The shy lad, whose voice has not yet broken, said: “I thought it would be good to have a baby.
“I didn’t think about how we would afford it. I don’t really get pocket money. My dad sometimes gives me £10.â€
Alfie, who is just 4ft tall, added: “When my mum found out, I thought I was going to get in trouble. We wanted to have the baby but were worried how people would react.
“I didn’t know what it would be like to be a dad. I will be good, though, and care for it.â€
Alfie’s dad Dennis told how the lad does not really understand the enormity of his situation — but seemed desperate to be a devoted and responsible father.

Well, the good news is the parents of both these children are being supported by their parents, because they'll need it to help raise this baby while children themselves.
He said: “When I spoke to him he started crying. He said it was the first time he’d had sex, that he didn’t know what he was doing and of the complications that could come.
“I will talk to him again and it will be the birds and the bees talk. Some may say it’s too late but he needs to understand so there is not another baby.â€
Um, wow, yeah dad should have had that little talk already.

What's the sex-ed like in England? I remember knowing that one time could lead to pregnancy when I was relatively young.
-
Wow...that is sad. A 13 y/o should know about the birds and the bees...Seems like this kid was innocent and really didn't understand what he was doing.
-
This is really disturbing! I read that abortion was not an option{Good for the girl} but they don't have adoptions in England? The kid looks like he's actually about 8! Really creepy!
-
Incredibly sad. I cannot believe they aren't adopting the baby out.

HIM ?????....what about her? What was she thinking, "If he's 13 but looks 8, he can't get me pregnant."

The baby should be put up for adoption immediately. It is a BAD thing to have a baby raised by babies. These are very selfish children hanging on to this poor infant.

It's not just the parents being selfish, but their parents. They should have counseled them towards adoption, the 15 year old mother already had 5 other siblings that her parents are taking care of.

My respect for the Brit's just went down the shitter.
-
That 13 year old boy does not even look 13, more like a 5 year old. This is appalling and think about the baby when it grows up. Teen pregnancy is a vicious cycle.
-
Sad, but this is nothing new. It was a common occurence in my school in the 80's.

I heard on the news early today, that a DNA test is going to be done, to make sure the boy is the baby's father.
This is a dumb question, but the article said the boy's voice has not yet changed. When do boys start to produce sperm...or is it there from the beginning?
Girls' eggs don't start to "drop" until they start menstruating.

Alfie Patten, the 13-year-old British daddy, taking DNA test to prove he's the father (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/us_world/2009/02/16/2009-02-16_alfie_patten_the_13yearold_british_daddy.html)
The 13-year-old British boy who became a proud father last week is eager to prove that he's the daddy.
Alfie Patten agreed to take a DNA test after two other teens claimed they also had sex with his 15-year-old girlfriend and baby mama, Chantelle Steadman.
"Other stupid boys are lying, saying bad things, like they have slept with Chantelle, too," Alfie told The Sun.
"But I am the only boyfriend she has had, and we've been together for two years, so I must be the dad."
A paternity test can prove he is indeed the father of little Maisie Roxanne. "So, if I have that, they can all shut up," he said.
Richard Goodsell, 16, claimed he and Chantelle had sex on three occasions around the time she conceived.

This is just sad.

They have been together for 2 years!?!? OMG....

Sperm production typically begins at about mid-puberty (12-14 years of age).

Around 12 or 12 1/2. Not to get off-topic, but I think dumping hormones into our food supply is not really helping. </DUmmy>

According to many reports that I have read, and stuff I have heard from friends that their pediatrician has told them....the hormones in our food supply is what is causing kids to be developing so much younger than they used to.
It is not uncommon for girls to be starting to develop breasts and start their periods at 9 or 10. Heck, all you have to do, is walk through the mall on a Saturday and look at the tweens and teenagers....they never looked like that when I was young.
Granted, I was young right after the wheel was discovered....but I don't remember many boys who shaved their faces even when they were freshmen in college. I know a high school boy that is a senior, just turned 18....he can grow facial hair overnight, that takes my 27 yo son 2 weeks to get that much!!
A friend's grandaughter was developing at 8, and at 10 weighed 120lb, started her period at 9. The child's parents took her to a endocrinologist, and he said he was seeing this all the time...and that doctors were attributing it to the growth hormones in food.

I've read some of the same things about the hormones in food, but at the same time, other nutritionists and medical people also believe that the better nutrition available to children could also be affecting childhood development .

I agree with the better nutrition theories. There was actually a study done to disprove the hormones in food theories. The hormones in food especially meat and milk were almost nonexistent when eaten. I knew people when I was growing up that started their periods at 8 and had full on breasts and pubic hair at 10/11 years old. There was a kid in my 6th grade class that had a beard and mustache. Twelve year olds were marrying and having kids for centuries before hormones were introduced to livestock.
