My friend got dragged out of bed, cuffed and arrested over a left turn.

I've told you guys about my friend the grocer across the street. He and his wife Betty are huge but quiet community people. Well, last Friday while Rolando was here at the store, the San Mateo Country Sheriff's Department went into his house on a warrant for his wife. She had missed a Traffic Court appearance for a bad left turn.
She happened to be sick in bed at the time. They took her away in her PJs, bare foot and cuffed. Betty is 5'1" and 90 lbs soaking wet after a big Thanksgiving Dinner. She says the cop did about 90 driving the 35 miles back to the jail, weaving all over the freeway, and that she was afraid she wouldn't even make it there in one piece.
Now, Rolando and Betty live in the hills and their address was changed by the county about 6 weeks ago. Their hill is always under construction, it keeps losing part of itself and the country decided to change the numbers on most of the streets on that one hill. They've been having trouble getting their mail. And since Rolando can't drive because of his vision, Betty has been going into town every day to try and see if she can retrieve their mail before it goes out into the big black hole that is their mail route. She never got the notice that told her to show up to a hearing, let alone on what date and at what time. But somehow Rambo and his buddies found their house easy enough and apparently they had no problem going through the front door.
Rolando can't drive. So last Friday he went nuts for 9 hours trying to figure out where Betty was until the SMC Sheriff's Dept called him because they didn't let her make a call but instead called the contact number they got from her once she was interviewed. I guess she was lucky it was a quiet Friday night. Rolando had to take a $200 cab ride to go to the jail, get a bondsman and wait until Betty was released. Another $200 to get home, about $1,000 for the bondsman. Quite a Friday night spree.
Betty will probably never make a left turn again.
And I guess the residents of San Mateo County should be happy that their crime rate is so low that the sheriff is out rounding up middle aged matrons on "no show to traffic court" warrants who have no priors. Something I'm sure doesn't happen to middle aged matrons in the whiter section of the county.
:shrug:
Someone tries to stop the bounce..

60. yep. this whole thread is just a bunch of "friend of a friend", and "i heard this"...
anecdotal stories about how traffic warrants are handled in america.
isn't it amazing that our rights are being violated so, and yet no one can produce one single link to one single news story about these abuses? just personal "stories?"
color me surprised.
i know you all want to believe that an "illegal left turn" will get you a swat team at your door and a handcuffed perp walk to a police car that will zoom 90+ mph down the road to your jail. but that is just hyperbole and melodrama.
as we say on du... link?
do you have any proof of these outrageous accusations? accusations that would have any local newspaper or tv reporter covering with incredible zeal?
or is it just that friend of yours... that know this guy... who once heard...
and a confession, well not really but it would be refreshing..

How did someone (1) with that level of sanity make it past 1000 posts at the DUmp.
It usually isn`t allowed.
-
When they came for the people who made bad left turns,
I remained silent;
I was not one who made bad left turns.
When they locked up the people who didn't retrieve their mail,
I remained silent;
I was not one who failed to retrieve their mail.
When they came for those who didn't show up for traffic court,
I did not speak out;
I was not one who would not show up for traffic court.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.
But no problem;
I'm not a DUmmie.

...and it's all run by the same calibre of people that you want running healthcare.
...and the term BLACK HOLE I thought had been deemed RACIST.

San Mateo County must be a model of police and court efficiency, I have never seen a simple failure to appear warrant, and on a single ticket at that, served with such blinding speed and expedition. Most everywhere else the offender goes unmolested unless they are stopped for something else and come up on the wants-and-warrants check, or unless the County has a round-up day to raise quick cash (In which case they collect a bunch of scofflaws at once and truck them all off to a judge together to wring the cash out of them).

Or their drivers license is revoked or attached so that they can`t renew unless the ticket is satisfied....often with interest and penalties.

Oh my.
This was fun reading.
Doug's ex-wife is surely the craftswoman with words.
-
Okay, if you know you have to go to court over a ticket and the mail isn't delivered regularly or on time, then why the heck would you just not call the court and ask them the date?
:mental:

That makes Bouncing Betty a true leftist then...........I guess.

I know people dragged from their beds and arrested for overdue library books.
That isn't even a Bouncy. It's just a flat-out lie.

109. The local municipalities are on a ticket warpath -- I just posted last week that I have been stopped four times in the last two weeks for minor fix-it tickets (a broken taillight lens), all in Colma and Pacifica.
That's what happens when you let the politicians spend all of California's money.

124. The Pacifica cop is the one who was literally hiding behind a tall hedge at an intersection
AND THE COP JUMPED OUT OF THE BUSHES.

There is, most likely, a bench warrant out for me in Deleware for failure to appear. Seems that some idiot cop decided the tint on my car's window was too dark. Of course, it was totally legal in NYS, where it was registered. So, after the ticket was issued, I decided the azzholes could chase me for the $. Because the only tickets the cops are supposed to issue on out of state equipment are SAFETY violations.
Del. didn't even bitch to NYS, as they would for a speed, etc etc.
Locally , failure to appear gets a bench warrant issued, but the Cpos don't seek you out. They will arrest you if you are picked up on some other violation, tho.. And the DESK SGT , if there is no JP available, issues you a bail amount and an apperarance ticket.
Anyway after the ticket on my windows, I asked a frienD who's a LEO TO write a ticket on any vio. any Del. driver committed. He asked why, and, when I told him he laughed. Told me they ALREADY DID, as the Del. LEO's gave no "consideration" to out of state LEO's , so they responded in kind......

The same way all liberals do things -- money. liberal "principles" like, oh say, paying taxes, are always up for sale.

The only part of this that even remotely rings true is this:
EFerrari Donating Member (1000+ posts)
Rolando had to take a $200 cab ride to go to the jail, get a bondsman and wait until Betty was released. Another $200 to get home, about $1,000 for the bondsman. Quite a Friday night spree.
They are good friends and He/She/It is all upset at this travesty but is too ****ing self involved to drag their ass away from the DUmp long enough to save the "friend" $400 worth of cab fare.

Once again Doug's ex wife removes all doubt that she's the dumbest person on the interwebs

Good lord, what did the guy do, rent a limo? In San Mateo county, the jail is in Redwood City, no more than 10 miles from the furthest point from the city of San Mateo. There is no cab company here in the bay area that charges $20 a mile...they'd go out of business if they did.

lol.... maybe he is using 2011 money

Taxis here are $2 a mile with a $3 pickup fee. For $200, you could ride from here to Alabama and back.

This story is absolute BullShit!
Not a chance in hell!
The only way you can go to jail on a traffic warrant is if you get stopped in your vehicle while the warrant is active.
All you have to do is CALL the damn clerk and get an extansion if you need more time.
This DUmmie should at least talk to one of their buddies with actual felonies before they make up BullShit like this!
This is not even a Bouncy! It's not credible at all!
And I'm sure I would know! It's my business to know these things!

Maybe her friend was sleep-driving?
Beth is full of shit. :pokingpoop:

I believe that is classified as a "fix-it" ticket. They may not even issue a bench warrant for those. Depends on how broke the county/city is. :-)

$1000 bucks?!!!! Her bond had to be $10,000 frikkin' grand!!!!! You only have to come up with 10%!!!
This DUmp monkey is a moran!!!
I don't think it was for a traffic infraction!

Man, that's an approximate average of 52 posts a day, each and every day.
Doug's ex-wife isn't exactly high on the seniority list on Skins's island; she came in November 2004, which means she's been there a while, but by no means does it put her near the top.
Doug's ex-wife came to Skins's island coincidentally the same time--sometimes even on the same day--as other acolytes of the late red round one, the Andyites. They came as a group, and I have no doubt my fellow alum Skins prefers they hadn't ever showed up.
