Octuplets' mother receives public assistance (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2009/02/nadya-suleman-w.html)
Nadya Suleman, the woman who gave birth to octuplets last month, is receiving $490 a month in food stamps, and three of her first six children are disabled and receiving federal assistance, her publicist confirmed to The Times.
Publicist Michael Furtney confirmed the information after two sources told The Times that Suleman was receiving food stamps and federal supplemental security income.
Suleman had told NBC News correspondent Ann Curry in an interview that she was not receiving welfare. Furtney said Suleman didn't consider the food stamps and SSI to be welfare.
“In Nadya’s view, the money that she gets from the food stamp program ... and the resources disabilities payments she gets for her three children are not welfare," he said. "They are part of programs designed to help people with need, and she does not see that as welfare."
Furtney declined to say what kinds of disabilities the three children have. Nadya Suleman told NBC that she was struggling financially to support her six children before the birth of her octuplets, but that she knows she will be able to support them, especially after she earns her master’s degree in counseling.

This whole story gets worse every day.

Nadya Suleman, who gave birth to octuplets last month, is getting public assistance.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the 33-year-old Whittier, Calif., resident will receive $490 a month in food stamps. Three of her first six children are also disabled and receiving federal assistance. (Her publicist Michael Furtney declined to reveal the children's disabilities.)
Suleman recently told the Today show's Ann Curry that she was not on welfare. (Suleman and Furtney didn't consider the food stamps and SSI to be welfare, according to the Times.)
"In Nadyas view, the money that she gets from the food stamp program ... and the resources disabilities payments she gets for her three children are not welfare," he said. "They are part of programs designed to help people with need, and she does not see that as welfare."

What a dilemma this must be for the DUmmies. They hate babies, but they love government support for whatever it is one wants, whether one can pay for it or not.

This woman has a publicist? I guess hitching your wagon to a human freak show is probably the best free publicity you're going to get today... it's not like she has a job to pay the man any money.

I'm sure he took his cut off the top of the (reported) $300K she got for the Anne Curry interview.
-
I've said this a time before about this lady. She is unstable and the BEST thing they could do for those 14 children is to adopt them out. I can't believe this travesty continues and her pockets get lined and there is no outrage to have her investigated. This woman has mental health issues that we will probably pay for in the tens of millions of dollars down the line with a brood like that and no other stability to help them overcome the challenges they will undoubtedly face at this woman's hands.
-
The doctor who impregnated her should be brought up on charges and have his license revoked. He is just as guilty as she is.

Agreed.

Agreed.
Doubly agreed!
-
Unbelievable!
What kind of doctor does not see thru this shit?
For cryin' out loud! My doc would have kicked her ass if she asked for more children!
He's a regular prick when it comes to me wanting something he knows would be detrimental to my health!
I fight with the guy all the time just to keep red meat in my diet!!! What the hell was this guy thinking? I see a publicity hound! This MF wants to be famous at the expense of the children!
GET A ROPE!

I'm just speechless.

^the publicist I think.

No, who is Anne Curry?
The woman got paid $300,000 for an interview and she's still collecting a check from the government? Is this in California?

Anne Curry is on the Today Show, but she did the interview for Dateline. I had it on for a while last night...after 5 minutes I had to turn it off. Made me sick and angry. Those poor, pitiful children. God help them.

you forgot having him be financially responsible for their upbringing...

Oh Joyous day !! Now we can donate directly to the family via their website (http://www.thenadyasulemanfamily.com/) set up for donations. :banghead:

The bitch has SEVERE mental issues. First off, she wanted to have a big family to combat "loneliness".... the kicker, the guy who knocked her up wanted to MARRY her, and she turned him down. Probably because she wouldn't qualify for welfare in that case.
Instead of sucking on the government teat for assistance to feed and diaper her 8 new babies (and 6 old ones), I would have gladly offered this nutjob a dollar for a rubber. :banghead:

This woman has mental health issues
And she is working on her masters in psychology...the irony.
I tivo'd the Dateline special and watched it last night. She certainly had psychological issues. A viewer pointed out, effectively, how she tries to emulate Angelina Jolie. She denied it of course.
In the "old days" large families were commonplace...but that's when the sons worked the fields and the women worked at home. This woman is just milking the system.
The sad part of this whole thing is that those children have a high probability of having cerebral palsy. Her "doctor" should have his license revoked.

This brings up the question of his responsibilty since she knows who the father is and this wasn't exactly a donor situation.

Wasn't there a case where a sperm donor was sued for child support. I thought it was a friend, of a lesbian couple that donated, and then when the couple split, the donor was sued by the custodial parent.

I think so and this is even further complicated by the fact that she actually had a relaitonship with this man and he was totally willing to donate in some sick way to 'be' with her when he was rejected for marriage I would guess. I'm thinking we got two headcases and not just one--again, these children need to be adopted out and this one belongs in mental ward. She can self-diagnose once she gets that masters done.

If she is such a bad mother, why are we waiting until after she has 8 more kids to say anything?
What law did she break?
On what grounds should she have her kids taken away?

To answer the first question, 'we' didn't know about this woman until the media brought her forward, but judging by her mother's own words, it sounds like they tried to get this situation stopped to no avail so something was said when this was still a private matter by the people closest to her.
Perhaps no law, but we can certainly argue the ethics of a single woman with 6 children going on to have 8 more by articifial means and then going on public assistance of some kind to support them.
I would say from all that's been said, she's got mental health issues. One could argue her fitness as a mother given the things she's said and those around her have claimed about her obsession with children.

I was meaning her family, friends, etc....did she have any issues of abuse with her first six children?
There are red flags with this case, and I am sure there will be a deep medical investigation. But I know alot of women with mental issues, and they all seem to be pretty good mothers.
-
Under the current living situation with the first 6 kids....apparently the issue of the children is being looked into due to the pictures that have been shown on tv....the place is dirty, food on the walls, not enough beds, etc. Which is enough to call in social services, even though the same situation exists all over the country. It has to be brought to social services attention for them to investigate. The pics on the tv, from what I understand from tv reports was enough to start an investigation. Plus, the grandmother said they were not equipped to raise all these kids.
Also there are three of the first six that are disabled. I don't know what the disabilities are...ADD/ADHD is considered a disability by the federal government.
Then it is expected that some, if not all, of the octoplets will be disabled.
The doctor who did the invitro is the one who should be prosecuted.....I would think at the very least, he will be censured by the AMA.

I wonder when the sperm donor will show up for his interview? Maybe he is holding out for the book deal?

I misunderstood, sorry. And yes, there are good mothers with mental health issues, generally they aren't raising 14 children though.
