Title: Will it keep?
Post by: Tess on February 08, 2009, 07:30:49 PM
I just grilled up some pork chops.  I am realizing that my family probably won't eat them.  Do you think they will keep in the fridge till I get back Thursday night?  I'll be way bummed if I am going to have to chuck all that when I get back.

Probably not.  Cooked meat/food is usually good for 24-48 hours.

You don't have a vacuum sealer do you?  You might be able to freeze them.

Toss them in the freezer.

I don't have a vacuum sealer, but I did learn a neat trick from the guy who processed and bagged up a bunch of salmon we had caught.  Fill up your sink or a deep pan with water, put the stuff in a Ziploc bag, and drop the bag into the water before sealing it.  The water pressure will push out all the air.

Try not to slip up getting every last speck of air out and end up dropping the unsealed bag into the water.  :thatsright:

oops! :evillaugh:

My salmon stayed frozen for over six moths (there was a lot of it).  I had to throw out two or three pieces, though.

Put it in front of em and tell em to eat or else..............popping the head off of a bird, tree rat etc really drives the or else point.  And ya got dinner or supper for the following day

I've had NO problem keep COOKED meats up to a week. It's the raw meats that go bad quickly.
