Mr Obama delivered another impassioned plea for support of the bill
US senators have reached deadlock in their attempts to find a compromise over President Barack Obama's $900bn (£616bn) economic stimulus package.
A group of senators from both parties has forced a line-by-line review of the bill by arguing that it should be trimmed by tens of billions of dollars.
Meanwhile, Mr Obama has again warned that the US economy faces "catastrophe" if exceptional measures are not taken.
He said that if Congress failed to pass his package, the resulting recession could destroy another five million American jobs.
Speaking at a meeting of Democrats from the House of Representatives, Mr Obama said: "They didn't vote for the status quo; they sent us here to bring change. We owe it to them to deliver."

Fail, Obama, fail.
Snowe, McCain, Spector, Voinovich, do the right thing.
-
**** you, Uncle Zero. Corporate America is rejecting your 'change and hope' to the tune of 7 something percent unemployment now. All you can do as a liberal without a clue as to how the economy works and nothing but a race card and class war in your pocket is make it worse. My other half is now a fallout of what corporate America expects from you. Were things bad before you got there...sure, but corporate America doesn't expect it to get any better apparently.

What barack fails to understand is that he was sent to DC by the media to sell newspapers/ magazines and increase TV ratings. I'm a firm believer that, although left leaning bias is strong, the real fawning over this buffoon was due much more to marketing then ideology. Republicans were not going to sell to the American people.
barack was the perfect storm of "clean, articulate" liberal with just the right amount of casual polish and celebrity appeal for the media to get behind and push over the election finish line.
Now the only question is how long before the media realises it effed up and throws this Marxist overboard?

Marketing indeed.
How long before the media tosses this empty suited Marxist? Longer than we suspect; maybe, much longer. And that's because he's their boy -- no racial slam intended there -- and their reputation, or what they think remains, if any, is at stake.
You know, though, there must be some serious gnashing of teeth and lots of obscenities and blasphemies being shouted about.
But, really, Obama was always and remains a tool of his puppeteers. He's only partly to blame. Soros and those other deep pockets, as well as all the advocacy journalists and opinionists, as well as the academicians and the DNC--their hands are so dirty that to call them unclean would be understatement.
-
I hope that the Senate will reject this crap. Maybe, just maybe, the slap in the face might wake the idiots like Pelosi, Reid and Obama up. I dobt it, but there's hope.
-
I hope they reject it, too. I feel so frustrated because this is so huge and disasterous. Correction, Chairman Zero, it will be a "catastrophe, never to be recovered from" if it DOES pass. Don't they know that just firing up printing presses does not generate wealth? Oh, maybe they don't, since none of them took Econ 101. You would think the indispensible genius crook Geithner would know better.
And yes, I contacted my senators, and was surely roundly ignored, since I'm from New York. I don't think that Kirsten would do something so bold as the right thing, right out of the gate.

How many people in the US actually paid or will pay taxes for 2008?
Take the $900 billion and divide it equally among them. If you filed a didn't have to pay, you get exactly squat. If you didn't file at all, you get exactly squat.

This (http://www.dcexaminer.com/politics/Obama-rallies-Democrats-with-tough-partisan-speech-Full-Text39195472.html) speech, the speech he gave to the Democrats? Partisan and arrogant, exactly what you'd expect from a comminity organizer. There has to be a video of it somewhere, his tone and style in this speech were even worse.

Every time I hear him speak, I want to slap him across his arrogant mug.

Maybe the worm is turning on this one.

Oh that speech! It interrupted Bill O's show, and I couldn't take but 3 seconds before I changed the channel to anything else, anything. That adoring cheering...blaaahhh.

I think you have a point there, RC.. although it sounds like some bad Hollywood plot, it's still a danger to America. If Obama bin Cokesnort has his way, it could really, really hurt us and even the RINOS like Snowe, Collins, and Graham know this.

That will happen the day they think they have more to gain by dissing him than by propping him up, and not a moment sooner. My guess is they will continue to prop him up until they project that even despite their own Herculean efforts to make him sound like he knows what he's doing, 40% or less of the polled public still thinks so and the polling is still showing a downward trend.
Thing is between the Black vote and screaming moonbat Left, it's almost impossible for him to ever get below 30% approval even if he gets caught having sex with a goat on live TV.

CBO: Obama stimulus harmful over long haul (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/feb/04/cbo-obama-stimulus-harmful-over-long-haul/)
"President Obama's economic recovery package will actually hurt the economy more in the long run than if he were to do nothing, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday.
CBO, the official scorekeepers for legislation, said the House and Senate bills will help in the short term but result in so much government debt that within a few years they would crowd out private investment, actually leading to a lower Gross Domestic Product over the next 10 years than if the government had done nothing."
CBO estimates that by 2019 the Senate legislation would reduce GDP by 0.1 percent to 0.3 percent on net. [The House bill] would have similar long-run effects, CBO said in a letter to Sen. Judd Gregg, New Hampshire Republican, who was tapped by Mr. Obama on Tuesday to be Commerce Secretary.
The House last week passed a bill totaling about $820 billion while the Senate is working on a proposal reaching about $900 billion in spending increases and tax cuts.
But Republicans and some moderate Democrats have balked at the size of the bill and at some of the spending items included in it, arguing they won't produce immediate jobs, which is the stated goal of the bill.
The budget office had previously estimated service the debt due to the new spending could add hundreds of millions of dollars to the cost of the bill -- forcing the crowd-out.
CBOs basic assumption is that, in the long run, each dollar of additional debt crowds out about a third of a dollars worth of private domestic capital, CBO said in its letter.
CBO said there is no crowding out in the short term, so the plan would succeed in boosting growth in 2009 and 2010.
The agency projected the Senate bill would produce between 1.4 percent and 4.1 percent higher growth in 2009 than if there was no action. For 2010, the plan would boost growth by 1.2 percent to 3.6 percent.
CBO did project the bill would create jobs, though by 2011 the effects would be minuscule.

And Then There Were Two? [Mark Hemingway]
RedState:
Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) just said in a radio interview that only two “Republican†Senators are still actively attempting to provide the Democrats “bipartisan†cover for their nearly $1,000,000,000,000.00 borrow-and-spend bill. Based on what I’ve been hearing from around the Hill, and Roll Call’s report that Sen. Collins (R-ME) was having misgivings about betraying her party and constituents, those two are (definitely) Arlen Specter (PA) and (most likely) Olympia Snowe (ME).

One of the problems with this package, is that it will become the new base line for government
spending pork. The amount being spent given to their pet projects/groups annually won't go down after this government created "crisis" is deemed to be over.
Capitalism is largely self-correcting if left alone. But the freakin' FEDS can't seem to keep their grubby fingers out of the pie.

Uh-huh, that's what the Democrats are claiming, but Kyl says there won't be a vote until Sunday. Collins is waffling - somebody from her state ought to email the nOOb ASAP. It's a "tentative deal' by their own admission, and it's not the "economic stimulus bill" anymore - according to Harry Reid, it's "the Obama bill".
