The unemployment office makes me want to vomit with rage.
4-6 weeks to get money.
Getting denied based on a paperwork error.
Appeals must be filed by fax only.
6-8 weeks for appeal to be heard!
I am dying out here. There is no excuse for this. There were only five jobs listed in the paper this week and I am not a truck driver or a nurse. There are not even burger flipping jobs to be had, I have checked.
Living with my parents sucks so bad. Gone is the pride I had in making my own way in the world. I have 75 cents in my pocket and 5 dollars in the bank and a sick feeling in my belly that will not go away.
Republicans did this to us, to me. When they stand in the way of helping us get back to work I take it personally. I have written and emailed and called my senators in Washington telling them to HURRY UP! I do not know what else to do.
Feeling helpless and abandoned.

Blaming the republicans and complaining to your representatives is a far more effective way of getting a job than going out and door knocking / etc.
That sick feeling in your gut, is shame.

6. I know what you mean
I wanted to kill the person through the phone yesterday who was mad that I was calling to verify paperwork received and wanting to know when my case would be sorted out.
Mind you, the calls on hold and wait times suggest that they are dealing with record numbers of claims, but it isn't my fault the Republicans want to kill us all.
If getting a job is going to be enough to make your poor little self expire, so be it.

12. Best laugh I have had all day.
My uncle is returning from Iraq in a week and he was just outraged at the shoddy work KBR does for our troops in Iraq. Thank God he made it back alive.
Riiiiight... Sure.

14. Hey angrycarpenter, maybe try contacting your city council members.
Try going to meetings
just google your city and state and "city clerk" or "city council"
My city council is pretty responsive and anxious to help people.
Maybe you can get some work with your city or at least make some connections that way.
Or at least have something to keep busy?
Also, have you tried craigslist.org?
Sometimes it's hard to solve problems on your own.
Hopefully you have someone to talk through your situation with, give you some ideas.
He's tried that like he's tried getting off his ass and putting effort into getting work.
Amazing the effort they'll expend to get their freebie, instead of putting that effort into getting a damn job.

contributing to the American economy (if only you could get a job doing so), and you have to watch all the federal money going to the parasitic ****ing vampires on Wall Street who make millions and contribute NOTHING to society or the economy while doing so.
Good luck to you with your job search. I hope things get better for you.

Do you have friends in union-friendly towns where you could get into an apprenticeship program? Some places still have openings and a need for union carpenters.

3. I'm so sorry. Been there done that.
Likely things will get worse and you'll have a lot of company among your old high school friends who also had to move in with Mom and Dad until things improve at all. Other than going door to door from business to business all day every day, there's not much you can do about it right now. The jobs just aren't out there right now and won't be for some time.
Just remember that this isn't your fault and you are allowed to be angry.
Uh-huh, angry at 0bama, who's had 16 days now.

I don't know about your area, but they are in great demand here -- and you can make some good money doing simple things.
I know I have a couple of jobs around my house that I can't handle and would pay someone a few bucks to do them. The trouble here is finding someone who can fit you into their schedule.

I am thinking they may be able to help? Our local used to have one person that is all he did was help people with their unemployment claims. He was very efficient too. He used to have a direct line to someone at the unemployment office.
Actually the union used to arrange to have the state workers come to the union hall to sign everyone up for our initial claims.

34. That's too bad for you
I have been unemplyoed since July 08. I was lucky and I got unemployment from Pa and they do everything online. They even give you a debit card and they just add the money every two weeks. You just answer the 5 or so questions and your done. They didn't even ask where I looked for a job. Now I am collecting from Ca and I get a third of what I got in Pa and they have paper instead of online. And you have to cash the checks and if you don't have a bank account they charge you to cash it. And they want to know where you looked for a job. I wish you luck.

35. Took me five weeks to get $75 per week
I have to do a work search-4 contacts a week....there are no jobs. Businesses are overwhelmed with people coming in asking for jobs so they can keep collecting unemployment. It's insane.
Well, it's all very sad, but surely the anguished carpenter primitive has to do some honest self-evaluation.

Damn.
Beat me by 11 seconds, LC, sir.

Funny that. I went out today with my oldest daughter. We ventured into Dallas, Garland and Mesquite. I saw a banner or a notice at ever stop for "employment opportunities". I also saw restaurants with full parking lots. A 30 screen movie theater doing a land-office business in the middle of a workday. Walmart had lots of folks filling up their baskets. The carwash was lined out to the curb. I-635 was abuzz with late model cars rushing down the road. There were all kinds of cars filling the parking lot of Town East Mall in Mesquite. Downtown Dallas had, and I counted, seven huge construction cranes swinging back and forth. Uptown is still busy building $200,000 1000 sq. ft. condos.
What's the deal?

I think someone is full of Caca. Anyone with limited carpentry skills worth a damn can find odd jobs and such. make enough to get by on at a mininum and live pretty damn good otherwise.
Now if you are a useless POS you won't last long & word about you being a POS gets spread quickly.

Yet, they want the government to run healthcare.
You can't make stupid up like that.

A DUmmie goes to the unemployment office and says to the officer "you may find this hard to belive but i really want a job".
The officer waits for a punch line and when he doesnt get it starts to look about his desk till he finds a file.
He says "I have a job right here for a chauffer for a rich mans daughter. She will need to be driven to fancy resturants and night clubs all over the country. And you will eat with her and dance with her and be at her side all the time. And because of her high sex drive you may have to please her sexually at her demand".
The position starts out at 50,000 a year are you interested?
The DUmmie say "you're joking, right?"
Then the officer says "WELL YOU STARTED IT!"

Getting denied based on a paperwork error. In other words, you couldn't follow simple, printed instructions on a form barely as complicated as a low level job application.

I am dying out here. There is no excuse for this. There were only five jobs listed in the paper this week and I am not a truck driver or a nurse. There are not even burger flipping jobs to be had, I have checked. Could it be that your rumor rag of a paper is one of those professional 0bama fellaters, and as such has only 6 readers left - including yourself. No readership, no self respecting business feels the need to advertise in said rag.
Living with my parents sucks so bad. Gone is the pride I had in making my own way in the world. I have 75 cents in my pocket and 5 dollars in the bank and a sick feeling in my belly that will not go away. That sick feeling is what's left of your conscience, telling you that your parents are right about what a disappointing, worthless sack of shit you are, and that they're probably gonna be saddled with your pathetic ass for the remainder of their miserable - made miserable by their pathetic waste of a child - lives.
Republicans did this to us, to me. When they stand in the way of helping us get back to work I take it personally. I have written and emailed and called my senators in Washington telling them to HURRY UP! I do not know what else to do. And how exactly is you standing with your worthless hands out at the gummint office, "getting back to work"? Moronic freeloaders who are ungrateful for the extraordinary largesse they reap from the sweat of my brow. Don't worry though, you do have a bright future in comedy: your congresscritters laughed their asses off at your pathetic, whining screeds.
Feeling helpless and abandoned. If only we could just abandon you. Believe me, we've tried but you just won't GO AWAY!

I had no problems with signing up for unemployment benefits online a few days ago.
Now I grant you that I haven't seen a check yet. But I wasn't expecting one to show up in the mail the next day.

I have been a "carpenter"/"foreman"/"superintendent", for 30 years! I no longer partake in the trade as 3 back surgeries have made it all but impossible, yet I have never, ever, been out of work unless I wanted to.
If this POS really wanted a job, he could find it! Unless of course his work leaves much to be desired. Which I suspect is his problem to start with!!!

Yes it was....that evil oilman Bush was in the Whitehouse...uh...at least that was the color then...but anyway, gas was a whooping $2.25 a gallon. Nancy P. said if the Dims were elected that they would do something about the high price of gas.... They did and gas went to $4.00 a gallon saving all of us a whooping $1.75 per gallon....don't you remember. Or were you busy spending all that extra money?

The thing that gets me is, some of his DUmmy friends were trying to be helpful with practical suggestions, which he promptly shoots down with excuses. Had to sell his truck. Car is a POS. Had to sell his tools. Six jobs in the paper. Sigh, what do you do with this guy? I know they had a hand in it, but I feel sorry for his parents. Your own handiwork turns out to be the biggest loser in the world and he's right across the breakfast table each day.
